really liked it

(Earlier) I'm now finished with reading the Old Testament. I have read the Gospel according to Matthew, and am now starting Mark. The difference between these b ooks and those of the Old Testament is startling, in part because of their immediacy - the writers were talking about contemporarfy, or near contemporary events. The King James Version is of course a magnificent English tanslation. I am glad to have started with the Old Testament, although that can become somewhat tedious, no offense intended. The context for the New Testament is striking, as are those passages of the earlier books which appear to prefigure the new.
The major discovery for me of the Old Testament was the dual kingdom, and the fact that the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Israel, once carried off, simply seem to have vanished into history. Also, I tend to read this history through the unlikely consideration of great power relationships. When ancient Israel takes on greater powers, Assyria or Babylon or Egypt, she loses. Is thee a modern parallel?
Now finished reading the New Testament as well. Most interesting for me was reading the epistles, sent to about a dozen Christian settlements around the Eastern Mediterranean. I found that I had traveled to about eight of them, from Philippi to Corinth and Ephesus, and could picture them in my mind.
Revelation, the last chapter, was a puzzle. I am not sure that the author could be the same John of the Gospel, and of the three epistles of John. And I was very surprised that there is no mention of an armed battle at Armageddon, or Har Megiddo.
