Lord Jefus Chrift, who hath blessed us with
all fpiritual bleifings in heavenly places in

4 According as he hath chofen us in
him before the foundation of the world, that
we should be holy and without blame before
him in love:

5 Having predeftinated us unto the adoption of children by Jefus Chrift to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praife of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the Beloved:

7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgivenets of fins, according to the riches of his grace;

8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us In all wifdom and prudence;

9 Having made known unto us the myf. tery of his will, according to his good plea fure which he hath purpofed in himself:

10 That in the difpenfation of the fulness of times, he night gather together in one all things in Chrift, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth, even in him:

11 In who also we have obtained an irheritance, being predeftinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things

after the counfel of his own will:

12 That we should be to the praife of his glory, who first trusted in Chrift.

13 in whom ye allo truffed after that ye heard the word of truth, the gofpel of your falvation: in whom alfo after that ye be lieved, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promife,

14 Which is the earneft of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased polfeffion, unto the praife of his glory.

15 Wherefore I alfo, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jefus, and love unto all the faints,

16 Ceafe not to give thanks for you, makIng mention of you in my prayers;

17 That the God of our Lord Jefus Chrift, the Father of glory, may give unto you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the know. ledge of him:

and gave him to be the head over all to the church.

2 If ye have heard of the difpenfation of the grace of God which is given me to youward:

3 How that by revelation he made known into me the mystery; as I wrote afore in new words;

4 Whereby when ye read ye may under tand my knowledge in the mystery of Chrift,

s Which in other ages was not made known unto the fons of men, as it is now reealed unto his holy apoftles and prophets by the Spirit;

6 That the Gentiles thould be fellow-heirs. ind of the fame body, and partakers of his promife in Chrift by the gofpel:

Whereof I was made a minister, according o the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

8 Unto me, who am lefs than the leaft of ll faints, is this grace given, that I fhould breach among the Gentiles the unfearchable :iches of Chrift;

9 And to make all men fee what is the fel owship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jefus Chrift:

10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wif dom of God,

11 According to the eternal purpofe which he purposed in Chrift Jefus our Lord:

12 In whom we have boldnefs and accefs with confidence by the faith of him.

13 Wherefore I defire that ye faint not t my tribulations for you, which is your lory.

14 For this caufe I bow my knees unto he Father of our Lord Jefus Christ, 15 Of whom the whole family in heaven nd earth is named,

16 That he would grant you according to he riches of his glory, to be ftrengthened ith might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Chrift may dwell in your hearts y faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded i love,

CHAP. IV.

He exhorteth to unity. Why men have different gifts. 20 The old man to be put off. Therefore, the prifoner of the Lord, befeech you that ye walk worthy of the votion wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowiinefs and meeknefs, with 1g fuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the rit in the bund of peace.

Exhortations to unity.

4 There is one body, and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptifm, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the meafure of the gift of Chrift. 8 Wherefore he faith, When he afcended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9 (Now that he afcended, what is it but that he alfo defcended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that defcended is the fame alfo that afcended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave fome, apoftles; and fome, prophets; and fome, evangelists; and fome, paftors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the faints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Chrift:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the ftature of the fulness of Chrift:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, toffed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the fleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Chrift:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint fupplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, mak eth increafe of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I fay therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, be ing alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the

blindness of their heart:

19 Who being paft feeling have given themfelves over unto lafcivioufnefs, to work all uncleannets with greediness.

20 But ye have not fo learned Chrift;

21 If fo be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jefus :

22 That ye put off concerning the former converfation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful fufts;

23 And be renewed in the fpirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteoufness and true holiness.

every man truth with his neighbour: for we 25 Wherefore, putting away lying, speak are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and fin not: let not the fun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil.

The duty of wives.

EPHESIANS,

31 Let all bitternefs, and wrath, and anger,
and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away
from you, with all malice:

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness,or covetoufnefs, let it not be once named among you, as becometh faints;

4 Neither filthinefs, nor foolish talking, nor jetting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger nor unclean perfon, or covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the Kingdom of Chrift and of God.

Chrift alfo loved the church, and gave him for it;

26 That he might fan&ify and cleane with the wathing of water by the word, 27 That he might prefent it to him glorious church, not having fpot, or wri or any fuch thing; but that it should be h and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as th own bodies. He that loveth his wife lo himself,

29 For no man ever yet hated his own but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even at Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, ob fleth, and of his bones.

31 For this caufe thall a man leave his ther and mother, and thall be joined unto wife, and they two thall be one fleth,

32 This is a great mystery: but I fpeak cerning Chrift and the church,

33 Nevertheless, let every one of you particular fo love his wife even as he felf; and the wile fee that the reverence husband.

CHAP. VI.

The duty of children and of fervants,

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: Children, obey your parents in the Lor

for because of these things cometh the wrath
of God upon the children of difobedience.

Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
For ye were fometime darkness, but now
are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of
light:

9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodnefs, and righteoufnefs, and truth;)

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Jord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a fhame even to speak of thofe things which are done of them in fecret.

13 But all things that are reproved are made manifeft by the light: for whatfoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he faith, Awake, thou that fleepest, and arife from the dead, and Chrift hall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumfpecly, not as fools, but as wife,

16 Redeeming the time, becaufe the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwife, but underftanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excefs; but be filled with the Spirit.

19 Speaking to yourfelves in pfalms and hymns and fpiritual fongs, finging and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jefus Chrift;

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God,

22 Wives fubmit yourfelves unto your own hbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Chrift is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the Church is fubject unto Chrift, fo let the wives be to their own hufbands in every thing.

as Hutbands, love your wives, even as

2 Honour thy father and mother; which i the first commandment with promife; 3 That it may be well with thee, and the mayeft live long on the earth.

4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your chi dren to wrath; but bring them up in th nurture and admonition of the Lord.

s Servants, be obedient to them that your mafters according to the Beth, with t and trembling, in fingleness of your heart, a unto Chrift;

7 With good will doing fervice, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8 Knowing that whatfoever good thing any man doeth, the fame fhall he receive of the Lord, whether be be bond or free.

9 And, ye mafters, do the fame things unte them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Mafter alfo is in heaven; neithet is there refpect of perfons with him.

10 Finally, my brethren, be firong in th Lord, and in the power of his might.

CHAP. I.

1 Paul's thankfulness and prayer to God for
them: 21 his readiness to juffer.
AUL and Timotheus, the fervants of
Jefus Chrift, to all the faints in Chrift
Jefus which are at Philippi, with the bishops
and deacons :

2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God
our Father, and from the Lord Jefus Chrift.
3 I thank my God upon every remem.
brance of you,

4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all, making requeft with joy,

5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;

6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jefus Chrift:

Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, becaufe I have you in my heart; inaïmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.)

8 For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jefus Chrift. 9 Aud this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge, and in all judgment;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be fincere, and without offence, till the day of Chrift;

11 Being filled with the fruits of rightcoufneis, which are by Jefus Christ, unto the glory and praife of God.

12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gcfpel;

13 So that my bonds in Chrift are manifeft In all the palace, and in all other places; 14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. 15 Some indeed preach Chrift even of envy and strife; and fome alfo of good will:

16 The one preach Chritt of contention, not fincerely, fuppofing to add affliction to my bonds:

17 But the other of love, knowing that I am fet for the defence of the gospel.

18 What then? notwithftanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Chrift is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19 For I know that this fhall turn to my falvation through your prayer, and the fupply of the Spirit of Jefus Chrift,

20 According to my earnest expectation,

and my hope, that in nothing I fhall be a shamed, but that with all boldness, as always, fo now alfo, Chrift thall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21 For to me to live is Chrift, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choofe I wot

not.

23 For I am in a ftrait betwixt two, having a defire to depart, and to be with Chrift; which is far better:

24 Nevertheless, to abide in the fleth is more needful for you.

25 And having this confidence, I know that I fhall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

a6 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jefus Chrift for me by my coming to you again.

27 Only let your converfation be as it be. cometh the gofpel of Christ: that whether I come and fee you, or elfe be abfent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye ftand faft in one fpirit, with one mind ftriving together for the faith of the gofpel;

28 And in nothing terrified by your adver faries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of falvation, and that of God.

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Chrift, not only to believe on him, but alfo to fuffer for his fake;

30 Having the fame conflict which ye faw
in me, and now hear to be in me.
CHA P. II.

1 He exhorteth to unity and humility, 12 andto
acareful proceeding in the way of falvation.
F there be therefore any confolation in
Ic
Christ, if any comfort of love, if any
fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and
mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the fame love, being of one accord, of

one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowlinefs of mind let each eftcem other better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man alfo on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was alfo in Chrift Jefus:

6 Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a fervant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man,

he humbled himself, and became obedient
unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted
him, and given him a name which is above
every name :

10 That at the name of Jefus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue fhould confefs that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have
always obeyed, not as in my prefence only,
but now much more in my abfence, work
out your own falvation with fear and trem-
bling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you
both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and
difputings:

whom ye fhine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Chrift, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the facrifice and fervice of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 For the fame caufe alfo do ye joy, and

20 For I have no man likeminded, who
will naturally care for your ftate.

21 For all feek their own, not the things
which are Jefus Chrift's.

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a fon with the father, he hath ferved with me in the gospel.

23 Him therefore I hope to fend prefently, fo foon as I shall fee how it will go with me. 24 But I fruit in the Lord that I alfo myfelf fhall come fhortly.

25 Yet I fupposed it neceffary to fend to you Epaphroditus, my brother and companion in labour, and fellow-foldier, but your meffenger, and he that miniftered to my

wants.

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been fick.

27 For indeed he was fick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me alfo, left I should have forrow upon forrow.

28 1 fent him therefore the more carefully,
that, when ye fee him again, ye may rejoice,
and that I may be the lefs forrowful.

29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with
all gladnefs; and hold fuch in reputation:
30 Becaufe for the work of Chrift he was
nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to
fupply your lack of fervice toward me.
CHAP. III.

If by any means I might attain unto the refurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I 1.ad already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which allo am apprehended of Chrift Jefus.
