3. We confess it has been of thy mercy alone, that we are not consumed: for our sins have cried to heaven against us, and our iniquities justly called for vengeance upon us.

3. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. Lam, iii. 22. I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Mal. iii. 6. O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. Ezra ix. 6. See also, Psal. lxxviii. 38, 39.-Neh. ix. 31.

But thou hast not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us after our iniquities; nor given us over, as we deserved, to be a prey to our enemies; but hast in mercy delivered us from their malice, and preserved us from death and destruction. Let the consideration of this thy repeated goodness, O Lord, work in us true repentance, that iniquity may not be our ruin.

4. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. Psal. ciii. 10. Thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this. Ezra ix. 13. Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth. Job xi. 6. Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Psal. cxxiv. 6. Thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities; and hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my foot in a large room. Psal. xxxi. 7, 8.
