CXX. Saint Simon and Saint Jude.

A PRAYER FOR THE UNITY OF THE CHURCH.

He called unto him his disciples, and of mighty God, them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles, . . . . Simon called Zelotes, and Judas the broChurch upon ther of James. Luke vi. 13. 15, 16. And his brethren, . . . . Simon and Judas. Matt. xiii. 55. These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, sayJesus Christ ing, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into the head cor- any city of the Samaritans enter ye not; and as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Matt. x. 5. 7. Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the houshold of God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord; in whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Eph. ii. 19 to 22. Upon this rock I will build my church. Matt. xvi. 18. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. Rev. xxi. 14. Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner-stone, a sure foundation. Isa. xxviii. 16. Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner; this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Matt. xxi. 42.-See also, Psal. cxviii. 22, 23.-1 Pet. ii. 6.

2. These things I command you, that ye love one another. John xv. 17. Neither pray I for these alone, ther in unity but for them also which shall believe on me through of spirit by their word; that they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us. John xvii. 20, 21. Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace: there is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Till we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Eph. iv. 3 to 6. 13. Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Cor. i. 10. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded; whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Phil. iii. 15, 16. Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you, than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Gal. i. 8. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed. 2 John 10. Only let your conversation be as it becometh the Gospel of Christ; that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the Gospel. Phil. i. 27. Let us follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Rom. xiv. 19.

together thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of thy

Son Christ our Lord;

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spi: ritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. ii. 5. In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord. Eph. ii. 21. Now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Acts xx. 32. CXXI. All Saints' Day.

A PRAYER FOR THE IMITATION OF THE SAINTS.
1. That which we have seen and heard declare

who hast knit we unto you that ye also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John i. 3. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John xvii. 20, 21. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God. Eph. ii. 19. The fellowship of the mystery, which is from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ; of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. Eph. iii. 9. 15. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father. 1 Pet. i. 2. We are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones: this is a great mystery; but I speak concerning Christ and the Church. Eph. v. 30. 32. And he

2. Grantus

grace so to follow thy blessed

Saints in all virtuous and godly living,

is the head of the body, the Church. Col. i. 18. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ; for by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Cor. xii. 12, 13. Being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. Col. ii. 2. 19. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office; so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Rom. xii. 4, 5. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? for we being many, are one bread, and one body, for we are all partakers of that one bread. 1 Cor. x. 16, 17. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Cor.i.9. 2. God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Pet. v. 5. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth; but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John i. 6, 7. Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Heb. vi. 12. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 1 Cor. xi. 1. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us; for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you. 2 Thess. iii. 7. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you. Phil. iv. 9. For our conversation is in heaven, from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus

Christ. Phil. iii. 20. And they continued stedfastly in the Apostle's doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts ii. 42. If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Phil. ii. 1, 2. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Phil. iv. 8. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who, for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Heb. xii. 1, 2.

3. Be sober, and hope to the end, for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. i. 13. It is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into prepared for the heart of man, the things which God hath preunfeignedly pared for them that love him. 1 Cor. ii. 9. The through Je- ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Bus Christ our Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isa. xxxv. 10. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matt. xxv. 34. Unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and Church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus the Mediator of the new Core
