PREFACE.

THE arrangement of these thoughts has been made with the hope of giving help and cheer through the labors of the day.

The passages from Scripture have been faithfully transcribed. The connecting sentiment and verse have been taken from ancient or modern writers, as they were adapted to each other and to the verse. Small alterations have been made, though always in harmony with the general meaning of the passages selected.
