2 Seek ye the Lord, his saving strength
Devoutly still implore,

Here in his temple seek the Lord,
And here his name adore.

PSALM CVI.-(N.V)

The Christian praiseth God for his mercy and loving-kindness, and supplicateth a share in the blessings promised to his: chosen people.

10 RENDER thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love ;

Whose mercy firm through ages past
Hath stood, and shall for ever last..

2 Who can his mighty deeds express,,
Not only vast but numberless?
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise ?

3 Happy are they, and only they,
Who from his judgments never stray,
Who know his will, nor only so,
But always practise what they know..

4 Extend to me that favour, Lord,
Thou to thy chosen dost afford:
When Thou return'st to set them free,
Let thy salvation visit me.

PSALM CVII.-(N.V.)

Our afflictions the penalties of our sins. Our deliverance to be sought from God by penitence and prayer.

1 WHEN We God's counsel have defied,
And lightly priz'd his holy word,
With sore afflictions we are tried,
We fall, and none can help afford.

2 But when to his indulgent ear
We penitent, our prayer address,
He graciously vouchsafes to hear,
And frees us from our deep distress.

PSALM CVII.-(N.V.)

A prayer for divine succour in the hour of distress.

1 LORD! to thy servants in distress
Thy speedy succour send,
For vain it is on human aid
For safety to depend.

2 Let thy right hand protect us still,
And answer Thou our prayer;
That Thee their God and Saviour too
Thy people may declare;

3 May praise thy mercies boundless height,
Which highest heaven transcends,
And sing thy truth, which far beyond
The lofty clouds extends.

4 Thus shalt Thou, Lord! exalted be
Above the starry frame,

And all the world with one consent
Shall praise thy glorious name.

PSALM CXI.-(N.V.)

A resolution to praise God in secret, and in the congregation, for the justice and stability of his counsels, for his mercy and truth.

1 PRAISE ye the Lord; our God to praise
My soul her utmost powers shall raise;
In secret, and amidst the throng
Of saints, his praise shall be my song.

2 Just are the dealings of his hands,
Immutable are his commands,

His truth confirm'd through ages past
Shall to eternal ages last.

3 His bounties, like a flowing tide, Have all his servants' wants supplied, And to posterity record

That good and gracious is the Lord.

4 Whoso then Wisdom's prize would win,
Must with the fear of God begin ;
Immortal praise is his reward
Who knows his will, obeys his word..

PSALM CXII. (N.V.)

The righteous man's comfort in affliction-His confidence in danger-The blessedness of his memory, and the prosperity of his seed.

1 THAT man is bless'd who stands in awe

Of God, and loves his sacred law;
No evil tidings shall surprise

The heart, that on its God relies.

2 The soul, that's fill'd with virtue's light,,
Shines brightest in affliction's night;
Tho' dangers and tho' death surround,.
Unmov'd shall it maintain its ground..

3 The sweet remembrance of the just
Shall flourish when he sleeps in dust,,
His seed on earth shall be renown'd,
And with successive honours crown'd..

PSALM CXIII.—(N.V.)

An exhortation to praise God for his power, his great glory, and excellent majesty.

1 YE saints and servants of the Lord,
The triumphs of his power record;

His sacred name for ever bless,
Where'er the circling sun displays
His rising beams or setting rays,
Due praise to his great name address.

2 God through the world extends his sway; The regions of eternal day

But shadows of his glory are :

With Him, whose majesty excels,

Who made the heaven in which He dwells,

What

power

created shall compare?

PSALM CXV.—(N.V.)

Our help is from God alone, to whom alone be the glory and the praise.

1 YE people, make the Lord your trust, Make Him your sword and shield,

O trust for help in Him alone,

Who only help can yield.

2 Let all who truly fear the Lord,
On Him they fear rely,

For He in danger can defend,
He all their wants supply.
