HYMN XXX.

For the Sacrament.

1 ACCORDING to thy gracious word,
In meek humility,

This will I do, my dying Lord,
I will remember Thee.

2 Thy body, broken for my sake,
My bread from heaven shall be ;
Thy testamental cup I take,

And thus remember Thee.

3 When to the cross I turn mine eyes,
And look on Calvary,

O Lamb of God, my sacrifice!
I must remember Thee :-

4 Remember Thee, and all thy pains,
And all thy love to me;

Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains,
Will I remember Thee.

5 And when these failing lips grow dumb, And mind and memory flee,

When Thou shalt to thy kingdom come,
Jesus, remember me.

HYMN XXXI.

For the Sacrament.

1 FROM Calvary's cross a fountain flows,
Of water and of blood,
More healing than Bethesda's pool,
Or fam'd Siloam's flood.

2 Nor shall that fountain's sacred stream E'er lose its healing power,

Till the whole ransom'd Church of God
Be sav'd, to sin no more.

3 Jesus! the virtue of thy blood
To all our souls apply;

Grant that to Thee we henceforth live,
Grant that to sin we die ;-

4 Till spotless, plac'd at thy right hand, Safe in the realms above,

We cast our crowns before thy throne,
And sing thy boundless love.

HYMN XXXII.

For a Funeral.

1 YE living, now survey the tomb, Where you must quickly dwell; Hark, how the awful summons sounds. In every funeral knell !

2 For you must die; and therefore now
The solemn purport weigh;

For know, that heaven and hell depend
On that important day.

3 Those eyes, though long in darkness veil'd, Must wake, the Judge to see ;

And every deed, and word, and thought,
Must pass his scrutiny.

4 May we in Thee, our Judge, behold
Á Saviour and a Friend,
And far above the reach of death,
With all thy saints ascend.

HYMN XXXIII.

For a Funeral.

1 HEAR what a voice from heaven proclaims
For all the pious dead;
Sweet is the savour of their names,
And soft their sleeping bed.

2 They die in Jesus and are bless'd;
How sweet their slumbers are!
From suffering and from sin releas'd,
And freed from every snare.

3 Far from this world of toil and strife,
They're present with their Lord;
The labours of their mortal life
Clos'd in a great reward.

HYMN XXXIV.

For a Funeral.

1 DEAD while they live are Adam's race
By nature, since their father's fall;
But lo! the messengers of grace
Proclaim the gospel-hope to all.

2 By his omnipotence Christ rose,
By his own Spirit liv'd again,
To crush for ever all his foes,
To raise for ever ruin'd man.

3 Those who his image here partake,
Though worms in dust their flesh consume,
Shall sleep in Jesus, and awake

To life eternal from the tomb.

4 Hear it, ye dead, of every clime,
Before the second death begins;
Come forth to a new life in time;
-A resurrection from your sins.

HYMN XXXV.

For a Charity.

1 FATHER of mercies, send thy grace
All-powerful from above,

To form in our obedient souls
The image of thy love.

20 may our sympathizing hearts
That gen'rous pleasure know,
Kindly to share in others' joy,
And weep for others' woe.

3 Whene'er the helpless sons of men
In low distress are laid,

Soft be our hearts their pains to feel,
And swift our hands to aid.

4 So Jesus look'd on dying men,
When thron'd above the skies,
And, in the bosom of his God,
He felt compassion rise.

HYMN XXXVI.

For a Charity.

1 How blest is he who mercy knows,
And learns to feel another's woes,
Bows to the poor man's wants his ear,
And wipes the helpless orphan's tear ;-

2 Who to th' afflicted gives relief,
And kindly soothes each anxious grief!
In every want, in every woe,
Himself thy pity, Lord, shall know.
