The Story of the Creation.

OD made this earth so bright and fair;
Grass, trees, and flowers He planted there;
He made the sun to give us light,
The moon, and stars, to shine by night.

All cattle, beasts, and creeping things,
All fowls and birds that soar on wings,
The fish that swim through ocean's flood-
God made them all, and saw them good.

Then Adam, last, and Eve his wife,
God formed from dust, and gave them life
On the sixth day; the seventh He blest
And sanctified-a day of rest.

Adam and Eve, a happy pair,
Were placed by God in Eden fair,
With but one law they might not break,
One fruit of all, they might not take.

Too soon they err ! and, by their fall,
Bring sorrow, sin, and death on all.
But, whilst from Eden sadly driven,
One saving hope by God was given.

To Cain and Abel Eve gave birth,
The two first children born on earth;
But Abel, gentler far than Cain,
Was by his envious brother slain.
