they saw that he was to be raised higher than themselves. So they thought they could put a stop to all this by getting Joseph out of the way. As if God was not stronger than they were. But envy and jealousy are such cruel, wicked passions that they make people blind and foolish, and very unhappy too. You will soon see that though cast down for a time, Joseph was yet to be raised up and honoured just as God had intended, in spite of all, or even through the very means of all, that his cruel brothers did to him.

How many sons had Jacob or Israel, and what were their names?

Was Joseph the youngest? and why did his father love him best?

What did Joseph dream?

How did Jacob's sons employ their time?

How did they treat Joseph when he went to see them?

For how much did they sell him to the Midianites?

What was the name of Joseph's master? and why did ne trust Joseph?

What happened in the prison?

Joseph is brought to Honour.

ING PHARAOH dreamed a dream one night,
Of ears of corn, and kine,

And Joseph, taught by God, declared

Its meaning was divine.

Seven years of plenty were foretold-
Seven years of famine then,

And Joseph bade them store up corn,
To save the lives of men.

Then Pharaoh ordered Joseph's name
Should next his own be praised;
He deck'd him with a chain of gold,
And to high honour raised.

Now Joseph's brethren, far away,
The pangs of hunger felt,
And came to Egypt to buy corn,
And down before him knelt.

Thus Joseph's dream of boyhood found
Fulfilment on that day:

That very dream for which they sold,
And sent him far away.

So God from evil brings out good
To all who trust His word;
And nothing really can do harm

To those who fear the Lord.

Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker. And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him. And he interpreted to us our dreams. And as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored to mine office, and him he hanged.

Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon, and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can
