Him? Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven. Whosoever cometh to Me, and heareth My sayings, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock; and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the sand; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Who was Simon Peter, and what miracle did Jesus work before He called him?

What did Jesus do for the poor sick people who came to Him?

How many of His disciples did Jesus ordain as His apostles, that He might send them forth to preach?

What were their names?

What sermon did Jesus preach to the multitude?
How did He teach us to pray?

The Widow's Son.

HERE was a poor widow who lost her son,
And he was her loved and her only one ;
But alas! he fell sick, and at length he died,
And left her alone-she had none beside.

They laid him out on a funeral bier,
And carried him forth to the grave so drear;
And his mother wept as she followed slow,
And many went with her, they pitied her so.

Their way through the city gate did lie,
As Jesus and His disciples came by,
And, full of compassion for her sad lot,
He said to the widow, gently, Weep not.

Then He touched the bier, and the men stood still,
And He spoke to the dead, so silent and chill,
Young man, I say unto thee, Arise!

And the young man opened his death-sealed eyes.

He rose, he sat up, he began to speak,
The tears dried up on his mother's cheek,
And Jesus gave back to her happy heart
The son from whom she had wept to part.

O surely thenceforward that mother and son
Must have loved as they never before had done,
And humbly worshipped the Lord that day,
Who had wiped the sad widow's tears away.

The Centurion. The Storm. The Widow of Nain. Fairus's Daughter. Mary Magdalene. The Sower. The Apostles sent forth.

OW when Jesus was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto Him a centurion, whose servant was dear unto him, beseeching Him, and saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldst come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this ́man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And Jesus

said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

And it came to pass the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and much people. Now when He came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And He came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And He delivered him to his mother.

And a certain scribe came, and said unto Him, Master, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay His head.

And when He was entered into a ship, His disciples followed Him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but He was asleep. And His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, Lord save us, we perish. And He said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
