Has cheer'd the nations with the joys His orient rays impart ; But, Jesus, 'tis thy light alone THE CHILD OF THE LORD. How bless'd is the child of the Lord, He listens with fear and delight, Though terrors may.compass him round, 'Tis true that his pilgrimage here But patience, submission, and love, Temptation, 'tis true, will assail, But the rags he once counted his own, And a mantle is over him thrown, Wash'd white in the blood of the Lamb. "THE SOWER SOWETH THE WORD." Sow in the morn thy seed; At eve hold not thy hand: Broad-cast it round the land. Beside all waters sow, The highway furrows stock; Drop it where thorns and thistles grow, Scatter it on the rock. The good, the fruitful ground, O'er hill and dale, by plots, 'tis found : Go forth then everywhere. Thou know'st not which may thrive, The late or early sown: Grace keeps the precious germ alive, When and wherever strown. And duly shall appear, In verdure, beauty, strength, Thou canst not toil in vain ; Cold, heat, and moist, and dry, Shall foster and mature the grain For garners in the sky. Thence, when the glorious end, And heaven sing, "Harvest Home!" WELCOME CROSS. 'Tis my happiness below Not to live without the cross, Trials must and will befall; God, in Israel, sows the seeds Did I meet no trials here, PRAYER. Go when the morning shineth- Go in the hush of night : Remember all who love thee, Pray, too, for those who hate thee, Then for thyself, in meekness, A blessing humbly claim, And link, with each petition, The great Redeemer's name. Or, if 'tis e'er denied thee In solitude to pray, Should holy thoughts come o'er thee, When friends are round thy way, Even then the silent breathing Who is mercy, truth, and love. |
