The superintendent of insurance, or any deputy, examiner or other person whom he shall appoint, shall have the power of visitation and examination into the affairs of any domestic society. He may employ assistants for the purpose of such examination, and he, L. 1911, ch. 198. Fraternal benefit societies. 244. or any person he may so appoint, shall have free access to all the books, papers and documents that relate to the business of the society, and may summon, qualify as witnesses under oath and examine its officers, agents and employees or other persons in relation to the affairs, transactions and condition of the society. 2. The superintendent of insurance, or any deputy, examiner or other person whom he shall appoint, may examine any foreign society transacting, or applying for admission to transact business in this state. The said superintendent may employ assistants, and he or any person so appointed shall have free access to all the books, papers and documents that relate to the business of the society, and may summon, qualify as witnesses under oath and examine its officers, agents and employees or other persons in relation to the affairs, transactions and condition of the society. Such superintendent may, in his discretion, accept, in lieu of said examination, the examination of the insurance department of the state, territory, district, province or country wherein such society is organized. If any such society or its officers refuse to submit to such examination or to comply with the provisions of the section relative thereto, the authority of such society to write new business in this state shall be suspended or..."
