John i. 51. Hereafter ye shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God afcending and defcending on

the Son of Man.

John iii. 13. No man goeth up to heaven, but he who came down from heaven, even the Son of Man, who is in heaven. Comp. i. 18; Luke xvi. 22.

John xii. 28. A voice came from heaven, faying, I have glorified, &c.

Acts ii. 2. Suddenly there came from heaven a found as of a rufhing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were fitting. Comp. 1 Kings

vii. 55. Stephen looked up ftedfaftly into heaven, and faw the glory of God, and Jefus ftanding on the right hand of God: ver. 56, and faid, Behold, I fee the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. Comp. Ezek. i. 1; viii. I to 4; Rev. iv. 1; xix. 11; and Doddr. note.

ix. 35 xxii. 6; xxvi. 13. Suddenly a light from heaven fhone round about Paul, and he fell to the earth, and heard a voice, faying, Saul, Saul, why perfecutest thou me? Comp. xxvi. 19, a heavenly vifion. Light is a common fymbol of the divine prefence.

x. 10, 11. Peter fell into a trance, and feeth heaven opened, and fomewhat defcending to him like a

This was done thrice, and the fheet was taken

SECTION XII.

NEW HEAVENS, and KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, signifying the spiritual Kingdom of the Messiah on Earth, or the Dispensation of the Gospel. Dan. ii. 44; vii. 13, 14; Luke xvii. 21.

ISA. Ixv. 17. Behold, I create new heavens, and a new earth. Comp. ver. 18 to 25; Dan. vii. 13, 14, 27.

Ifa. lxvi. 22. As the new heavens, and the new earth, which I will make, &c.

Matt. iii. 2. John preached, faying, repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven draweth near.

iv. 17. Jefus preached, faying, repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven draweth near.

v. 3. Bleffed are the poor in fpirit, for their's is' the kingdom of heaven.

19. Whofoever shall break the least of these commandments, and fhall teach men fo, fhall be called the leaft in the kingdom of heaven; but whofoever fhall perform and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20. Unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and pharifees, ye fhall by no means enter into the kingdom of heaven.

viii. 11. Many fhall come from the east and the west, and shall fit down with Abraham, Ifaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. Abraham, Ifaac, and Jacob, may mean their defcendants, as Ifrael does in the preceding 10th verfe.

x. 7. Preach, faying, the kingdom of heaven draweth near.

xi. 11. The leaft in the kingdom of heaven is greater than John the Baptist.

12. From the day of John until now the kingdom of heaven fuffereth violence.

xiii. 11. Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.

Matt. xiii. 24. The kingdom of heaven is like a man who fowed good feed in his field.

xvi. 19. I will give thee the keys of the kingdom. of heaven; and what thou shalt bind on earth fhall be bound in heaven, and what thou fhalt loose on earth fhall be loofed in heaven.

Authority over the kingdom of the gofpel, or fociety of Chriftians, with a power to direct, appoint, and command, what is proper for the governing of it. Bearing the keys is a mark of office and rule; Ifaiah xxii. 22; Rev. iii. 7; ix. 1; xx. I. The Apostles exercised this power, Acts xv; John xx. 23; Acts V. I to II; vi. 1 to 4; xiii. 8 to 12; 1 Cor. xi. 33, 34; xiv. 26, 40; xviii. 18. See Newcome's note on Matt. xvi. 19; and Pearce's note.
