INTRODUCTION.

THE

HE original words in Scripture that are translated by the term heaven in English, are, in Hebrew, in Chaldee W, and in Greek Oupavos. The Chaldee word occurs only in Daniel, from the fourth verfe of the fecond chapter to the end of the seventh chapter, and in the eleventh verse of the tenth chapter of Jeremiah. With these exceptions, it is the Hebrew term that is rendered heaven, air, and sky, in the Old Testament, and spavos in the New Testament. These things are noticed in the Introduction, in order to prevent the neceffity of fpecifying the original words under every text or fection. It is obvious that an attention to the context will be often requifite, in order to judge concerning the propriety of the arrangement of many of the following texts.

HEAVEN, denoting the Air or Atmosphere, in which are the Clouds.

xlix. 25. The Almighty fhall bless thee with bleffings of heaven above. Comp. Deut. xxxiii, 13; Ezek. xxxiv. 26.

Exod. ix. 8. Let Mofes fprinkle the ashes toward the heaven in the fight of Pharaoh.

10. And Mofes fprinkled it toward heaven.

22, 23. Mofes ftretched forth his rod toward heaven, and the Lord fent thunder and hail.

X. 21. Stretch out thine hand toward heaven. 22. And Mofes ftretched his hand toward heaven.
