In his last Ilnefs, which continued many Months upon him, he manifefted a great deal of Patience and Refignation of Mind to theWill of the Lord, faying to fome Friends who vifited him, - 1 bave bad many comfortable Times amongst Friends, the Lord having been good to me in many Refpects, and under parious Exercifes and Temptations that I have met with; and I hope, as I continue faithful to the End, he will be near me ftill, and at that Time give me an Inheritance among the Righteous, which I have no Caufe to doubt of; for although this Affliction he has now laid, or permitted to be brought upon me, be exercifing, yet if it should continue and increase, I know that I ought to bear with Patience; for the Lord has been good to me many Ways, as I have reafon to acknowledge, and hope he will continue fo to be to the End.

We doubt not but the Defire of his Soul was answered in that Respect, and that he now enjoys the Fruit of his Labours, Peace with the Lord, and Affsurance for ever. And although, by reafon of his old Age, and the Infirmity of Body that had long attended him, he at times was not fo ftrong in his Intellects, as in the Time of his Health he used to be, yet he was in a good degree preferved in a fweet and inoffenfive Difpofition of Mind, and was fometimes very lively and clear in his Understanding, and manifefted the fame in his laft Moments.

He

He departed this Life, in great Patience and Stilnefs, the 10th of the Ninth Month 1728, and was buried in Friends Burying Ground in lower Bentham in Yorkshire, on the 12th of the fame, being in the Eightieth Year of his Age.

A Teflimony from the Monthly-meeting at Woodbridge, in the County of Suffolk, concerning our well-beloved Friend MARY GODBOLD.

MAR

ARY GODBOLD, late Wife of Robert Godbold, of Bredfield in the County of Suffolk, was born in the Parish of Dallingó, in the County aforefaid, about the Year 1665. She was well inclined from her Youth, and, for the Sake of the bleffed Truth, did deny herself of thofe Things which the faw would prevent her from doing her Duty to God and Man. About the Year 1706, it pleafed the Lord to call her into the Work of the Miniftry. She was very zealous and faithful in the Discharge of her Duty therein, to the Honour of God, and the Comfort of his People.

She was a tender nurfing Mother, both in her Family and in the Church of Chrift, and had a fervent Zeal for God and his bleffed Truth; and she was very loving and serviceable in entertaining Friends; allo zealous in exhorting and building up both Old and Young

in the most holy Faith: And the very Stream
of her Testimony tended wonderfully to per-
fwade the young Generation to Faithfulness to
God, and Love one towards another. She was
alfo concerned to bear her Teftimony against
that separate Spirit that hath appeared amongst
us of late.
And though he was often very
weak in Body, yet very careful and diligent in
vifiting Meetings, in and about the Counties
of Norfolk, Effex and Cambridgfhire, as well
as thofe in the County wherein the dwelt;
and whilft he had Strength of Body to
attend publick Meetings, fhe had often therein
a Word to speak in Season, fuitable to the
Conditions of many; and was inftrumental,
in the Hand of the Lord, to keep Things
in good Order, relating to Church Affairs.
But about the 12th of the Seventh Month
1728, he was taken very ill, and much
afflicted in Body; yet through fervent Travail
of Soul to the Lord, in the living Faith which
The received of Chrift the Author of it, the
was kept ftedfaft, in the true Patience, to the
End of her Days, and obtained Victory, which
God in his own good Time did manifeft to
her and which most excellent Enjoyment
fhe often declared of unto others, to their Joy
and Refreshment alfo. She would frequently
fay, in the Time of her Ilnefs, That the Work
of Regeneration was bravely compleated in Chrift,
and all Doubts and Fears were removed; and
now he waited to be with him her Redeemer.

;

She

She likewife often spoke of the sweet Enjoy ment of God's living Prefence, which he was favoured with; for which fhe was thankful, and praised the Lord for his great Goodness towards her Soul. At other times fhe wept and prayed on behalf of others, and begged that the Lord, in his great Goodness and Mercy, would be pleased to vifit the Souls of all, as he bad vifited her. And in this fweet, quiet and Heavenly Frame of Spirit, fhe continued to the End of her Ilness; and on the 4th Day of the Eleventh Month 1728, being then very ftill and quiet, and in a Lamb-like State, the gave up the Ghoft; and we have good reafon to believe she died in true Peace with the Lord, and in right Good-will towards all Mankind, and is gone to receive a Crown of Righteoufnefs, and a joyful Reward with the Lord, the God of her Salvation, for ever. And certainly the Lofs of her is very great to the Church, but undoubtedly our Lofs is her Gain and Comfort in Chrift, World without End.

On the 7th of the Eleventh Month 1728, The was decently buried in Friends Burying Ground in Bredfield aforefaid.

A Teftimony

A Teftimony from the Monthly-meeting at Asquith in Yorkshire, concerning JOHN DODSHON.

TH

HIS our dear deceased Friend was defcended of believing Parents, and by them carefully educated in the Way of Truth and Plainnefs. In his young Years he became concerned in Spirit to fear and feek the Lord, that he might feel and witness in himself the fanctifying Work of his Spirit; and by attending thereto, he grew up a good Example to the Youth of his Time. Thus persevering to love Truth and religious Meetings, and waiting therein upon the Lord for his quickning Power, he had a Gift of the Miniftry committed to him. His Labour and Exercise therein tended to Friends Comfort and Satisfaction, the fame being adorned with an innocent Life, and a grave and peaceable Converfation ; and through the Openings of the Divine Power, his Understanding came to be enlarged in the Myfteries of the Kingdom. He was truly beloved and esteemed amongst us in his Services for the Truth. He vifited many of the Meetings of Friends in this County, and in fome other Counties, North and South, to the Satisfaction and Comfort of Friends; having also often had good Service in divers publick Meetings, on fundry Occafions,
