And God faid, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven, to divide the day from the night: and let them be for figns and for featons, and for days and years. 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon the earth and it was fo. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lefer Ggh to rule the night: be made the stars allo. 17 And God fet them in the firmament of the heaven, to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the right, and to divide the light from the dark nets: and God faw that it is good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. 20 And God faid, Let the waters bring Both abundantly the moving creature that bath life, and fowl that may the above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth; which the waters brought forth abundantly after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God faw that it was good. 22 And God bleffed them, faying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the feas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. 24 And God faid, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattel and creeping thing and beaft of the earth after his kind: and it was fo. 25 And God made the beaft of the earth after his kind, and cattel after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind and God faw that it was good. 26 And God faid, Let us make man in our image, after our likenefs: and let them have dominion over the fifh of the fea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattel, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him: male and female created he them. 28 And God bleffed them, and God faid unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenifh the earth, and fubdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the fea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God faid, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing feed, which upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which the fruit of a tree yielding feed: to you it fhall be for meat. 30 And to every beaft of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat and it was fo. 31 And God faw every thing that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And the LORD God formed man of the duft of the ground, and breathed into his nottrils the breath of life; and man became st living foul. And the LORD God planted a garden eaft-ward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleafant to the fight, and good for food: the tree of life alfo in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pifon: that it which compafleth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx-ftone. 13 And the name of the fecond river is Gihon: the fame is it that compaffeth the whole land of Ethiopia. 14 And the name of the third river Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the caft of Affyria. And the fourth river is Eu porates. 15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden, to drefs it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, faying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayeit freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou halt furely die. 18 And the LORD God faid, "It is not good that the man fhould be alone: I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air, and brought them unto A 8am to fee what he would call them: And whaticever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattel, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field: but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 34 And the LORD God caufed a deep fleep Po fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in ftead thereof. 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adani faid, This is now bone of my bones, and deth of my fieth: the fhall be call ed Woman, becaufe the was taken out of man. 24 Therefore fhall a man leave his father and his mother, and thall cleave unto his wife and they thall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. CHA P. IV. The birth of Cain and Abel. 8 The murder of conceived, and bare Cain, and faid, I 2 And the again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of theep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in procefs of time it came to pafs, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4 And Abel, he alfo brought of the firstlings of his flock, and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had refpect unto Abel, and to his offering: Bet unto Cain and to his offering he had not refpect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell 6 And the LORD faid unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doeft well, fhalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doeft not well, fin lieth at the door. And unto thee fat be his defire, and thou shalt rule over him. 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pafs when they were in the field, that Cain rofe up against Abel his brother, and flew him. 9. And the LORD faid unto Cain, Where Abel thy brother? And he faid, I know not: my brothers keeper? 10 And he faid, What haft thou done? the voice of thy brothers blood crieth unto me from the ground. 11 And now art thou curfed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brothers blood from thy hand. 12 When thou tilleft the ground, it fhall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength. A fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth. 11 And Cain faid unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can hear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth: and from thy face fhall I be hid, and I fhall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth, and it thall come to país, that every one that findeth me fhall flay me. 45 And the LORD faid unto him, There. 16 And Cain went out from the prefence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and the conceived and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his fon, Enoch. 18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael and Mehujael begat Methufael: and Methufael begat Lamech 199 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare jabal: he was the fa ther of fuch as dwell in tents, and of fuch as have cattel. 21 And his brothers name was Jubal: he was the father of all fuch as handle the hary and organ. 22 And Zillah, the alfo bare Tubal-cain, an and the fifter of Tubal-cains Naamah. 23 And Lamech faid unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice ye wives of Lamech, Hearken unto my fpeech: for I have flain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. 24 If Cain thall be avenged feven-fold, truly Lamech feventy and feven-fold. 25 And Adam knew his wife again, and the bare a fon, and called his name Seth: for God, faid he hath appointed me another feed inftead of Abel, whom Cain flew. 26 And to Seth, to him alfo there was born a fon; and he called his name Enos Then began men to call upon the name of the LORD. CHAP. V. The genealogy, are, and death of the Patriarchs from Adam unto Noah. 24 The godliness and tranflation of Enoch. This is the book of the generations of Adam in the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him: 2 Male and female created he them; and bleffed them, and called their name Adan in the day when they were created. 3qAnd Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a fon in his own likeneis, after his image; and called his name Seth. 4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat fons and daughters. 5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died. 6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos. 7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos,eight hundred and feven years, and begat fons and daughters. 8 And all the days of Seth were nine hun dred and twelve years: and he died. 99 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan. 10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat fons and daughters. 11 And all the days of Enos were n hundred and five years and he died. CHAP. VI. The wickedness of the world caufeth the floud. 8 Noah findeth grace. 14 The order, form, and end of the ark. And it came to pafs, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the fons of God faw the daughters of men, that they were fair; and they took thein wives of all which they chofe. 3 And the LORD faid, My fpirit fhall not always ftrive with man, for that be alfo is fleth yet his days fhall be an hundred and twenty years. 4 There were giants in the earth in thofe days; and alfo after that, when the fons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them: the fame be Came nighty men, which were of old, men of The ark built. man w great in the earth, and that every 6 And it repented the LORD that he had And the LORD faid, I will deftroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, both man and beaft, and the creep ing thing, and the fowls of the air: for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD 99 Thefe are the generations of Noah: Noah was a juft man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begat three fons,Shem,Ham, and Japheth. 11 The earth alfo was corrupt before God; and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.. 13 And God faid unte Noah, The end of all fefh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them: and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 144 Make thee an ark of gopher-wood: rooms fhalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fabion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark fhall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window fhalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit fhalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark fhalt thou fet in the fide thereof: with lower, fecond, and third fories fhalt thou make it. 17 And behold, I, even I do bring a floud of waters upon the earth, to deftroy all flesh, wherein the breath of life, from under heaven: and every thing that in the earth fhall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant: and thou shalt come into the ark; thou; and thy fons, and thy wife, and thy fons wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every fort halt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee: they fhall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattel after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind: two of every fart fhall come unto thee, to keep them alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that 1 Noah with his family entreth into the ark. VIII. 1 The waters affwage. 18 Noah goeth forth of the ark. 20 Buildeth an altar, and offereth facrifice. 21 Gods promife to curse the carth no more. 4 For yet feven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty have made, will I deftroy from off the face A living thing, and all the, attel very nights and every living fubftance that I of the earth. 5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him. 6 And Noah was fix hundred years old, when the floud of waters was upon the earth, 7 And Noah went in, and his fons, and his wife, and his fons wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the floud. 8 Of clean beafts, and of beafts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, 9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And it came to pafs after feven days that the waters of the floud were upon the earth. In the fix hundredth year of Noahs life, in the fecond month, in the feventeenth day of the month, the fame day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 In the felf-fame day entred Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the fons of Noah, and Noahs wife, and the three wives of his fons with them, into the ark: 14 They, and every beaft after his kind, and all the cartel after their kind, and eve. ry creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every fort. 15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had com manded him': and the LORD fhut him in. 17 And the floud was forty days upon the earth: and the waters increáfed, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed, and were increafed greatly upon the earth: and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills that pere under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. 21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattel, and of beaft, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man. 22 All in whofe noftrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. 23 And every living fubftance was deftroy ed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattel, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth and hundred and fifty days, Nd God remembred Noah, and was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters affwaged. 2 The fountains alfo of the deep, and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was reftrained. 3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4 And the ark refted in the feventh month, on the feventeenth day of the month, upon the mountain of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreafed continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month were the tops of the mountains feen. 64 And it came to pafs at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. And he fent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 Alfo he fent forth a dove from him, to fee if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no reft for the fole of her foot, and the returned unto him into the ark: for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. Then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him in to the ark. 10 And he stayed yet other feven days, and again he fent forth the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove came in to him in the evening, and lo, in her mouth was an oliveleaf pluckt off: So Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other feven days, and fent forth the dove'; which returned not again unto him any more. 139 And it came to pafs in the fix hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 And in the fecond month, on the feven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. 159 And God fpake unto Noah, faying, 16 Go forth of the ark, thon, and thy wife, and thy fons, and thy fons wives with thee. 17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that with thee, of all fleh, both of fowl, and of cattel, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. 18 And Noah went forth, and his fons, and his wife, and his fons wives with him: 19 Every beaft, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. 20 q And Noah builded an altar unto the AS.
