I and he: we dreamed each man according 33-Now therefore let Pharaoh look ove a to the interpretation of his dream. man difcreet and wife, and fet him over the land of Egypt. 12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, fervant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams: to each man according to his dream he did interpret. 13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, fo it was: me he reftored unto mine office, and him he hanged. 14 Then Pharaoh fent and called Jofeph, and they brought him haftily out of the dungeon: And he thaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh. 15 And Pharach faid unto Jofeph, I have dreamed a dream,and there is none that can interpret it and I have heard fay of thee, that thou canst understand a dream, to interpret it. 16 And Jofeph answered Pharaoh, faying, E not in me: God fhall give Pharaoh an anfwer of peace. 17 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, In my dream, behold, I ftood upon the bank of the 18 And behold, there came up out of the river feven kine, fat-flelhed, and wel-favoured; and they fed in a meadow. 19 And behold, feven other kine came up after them, poor, and very ill-favoured, and lean-fethed, fuch as I never faw in all the land of Egypt for badness. 20 And the lean and the ill-favoured kine did eat up the first feven fat kine. 11 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were ftill ill-favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke, 22 And I faw in my dream, and behold,feven ears came up in one ftalk, full and good. 13 And behold, feven ears, withered, thin, and blafted with the caft-wind, fprung up af ter them. 24 And the thin ears devoured the feven good ears and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it ento me. 25 And Jofeph faid unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath fhewed Pharach what he is about to do. 16 The feven good kine are feven years; and the feven good ears are feven years: the dream one. 27 And the feven thin and ill-favoured kine that came up after them,are feven years; and the feven empty ears blafted with the eat-wind, fhall be feven years of famine. 28 This the thing which I have fpoken ento Pharaoh: What God aboat to do, he theweth unto Pharaoh. 29 Behold, there come leven years of great Plenty, throughout all the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fth part of the land of Egypt in the feven plenteous years. 35 And let them gather all the food of thofe good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 And that food fhall be for ftore to the land, against the feven years of famine, which fhall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perifh not through the famine. 37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his fervants. 38 And Pharaoh faid unto his fervants, Can we find fuch a one as this, a man in whom the fpirit of God is? 39 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, Forafmuch as God hath fhewed thee all this, there none fo difcreet and wife as thou art. 40 Thou thalt be over my house, and according unto thy word fhall all my people be ruled only in the throne will I be greater than thou. 41 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, See, I have fet thee over all the land of Egypt. 42 And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Jofephs hand, and arayed him in veftures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck. 43 And he made him to ride in the fecond chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him raier over all the land of Egypt. 44 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph,I em Pha raoh, and without thee fhall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt. 45 And Pharaoh called Jofephs name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Afe nath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On: and Jofeph went out over all the land of Egypt. 46 And Jofeph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt: and Jofeph went out from the prefence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. 47 And in the feven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. 48 And he gathered up all the food of the feven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field which was round about every city, laid he up in the fame. 49 And Jofeph gathered corn as the fand of the fea, very much, until he left numbring: for it was without number. so And unto Jofeph were born two fons,be10 And there fhall arife after them feven-fore the years of famine came: which Afeyears of famine, and all the plenty fhall be nath, the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of forgotten in the land of Egypt: and the fa- O, bare unto him. nuine fhall confume the land. And the plenty thall not be known in the land, by reafon of that famine following: for it had be very grievous. 12 And for that the dream was doubled unte Pharaoh twice; it becaufe the thing eablithed by God, and God will shortly ing is to pass. 51 And Jofeph called the name of the fir?born Mananen: for God, faid he, hath mad me forget all my toil, and all my fathe houfe. 52 And the name of the fecond called Ephraim: for God hath caufed me to fruitful in the land of my affliction. 53 And the feven years of plenteouinc B6 that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.. 54 And the leven years of dearth began to come, according as Jofeph had faid: and the dearth was in all Linds; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. 55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh faid unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Jofeph; what he faith to you, do. 50 And the famine was over all the face of the earth and Jofeph opened all the ftorehoufes, and fold unto the Egyptians; and the Famine waxed fore in the land of Egypt. 57 And all countries came into Egypt to Jofeph for to buy corn; because that the fahine was fo fore in all fands. CHAP. XLIL Jacob fendeth his ten fons to buy corn in Egt. 16 They are imprisoned by Jofeph for Spies. Nin Egypt, Jacob faid unto his fons, Why Ow when Jacob faw that there was corn do ye look one upon another? 2 And he faid, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live and not die. And Jofephs ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt. 4 But Benjamin, Jofephs brother, Jacob fent not with his brethren: for he faid, Left peradventure milchief befall him. 5 And the fons of Ifrael came to buy corn among thole that came for the famine was in the land of Canaan. 6 And Jofeph was the governour over the land, and he it was that fold to all the people of the land and Jofephs brethren came and bowed down themfelves before him, with their faces to the earth. 7 And Joseph faw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and fpake roughly unto them; and he faid unto them, Whence come ye? And they faid, from the land of Canaan to buy food. 8 And Jofeph knew his brethren, but they knew not him. 9And Jofeph remembred the dreamswhich he dreamed of them, and faid unto them,Ye are fpies; to fee the nakedness of the land you are come. 10 And they faid onto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy fervants come. 11 We are all one mans fons: we are true men, thy fervants are no fpies. 12 And he faid unto them, Nay, but to fee the nakednefs of the land you are come. 13 And they faid, Thy fervants are twelve brethren, the fons of one man in the land of Canaan; and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not. 14 And Jofeph faid unto them, That Is it that I fpake unto you, faying, Ye are pies. 15 Hereby ye fall be proved by the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither. 16 Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye thall be kept in prifon, that your words may be proved, whether shere be any truth in you or elfe by the life of Pharaoh furely ye are pics. 17 And he put them altogether into ward Circe days. And they did fo. 21 And they faid one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we faw the anguish of his foul, when he befought us; and we would not hear: therefore is this distress come upon us. 22 And Reuben aniwered them, faying, Spake I not unto you, faying, Do not fin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore behold alfo, his blood is required. 21 And they knew not that Jofeph under ftood them; for he fpake unto them by an interpreter, 24 And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them a gain, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes. 25 Then Jofeph commanded to fill their facks with corn, and to restore every mans money into his fack, and to give them provition for the way: and thus did he unto them. 26 And they laded their affes with the corn, and departed thence. 27 And as one of them opened his fack to give his ats provender in the inn, he efpied his money: for behold it was in his ficks mouth. 28 And he faid unto his brethren, My money is restored; and lo, it is even in my fack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, faying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us? 29. And they came unto Jacob their fa ther unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that befel unto them, laying, 30 The man who is the lord of the land; fpake roughly to us, and took us for fpes of the country. 31 And we faid unto him, We are true men; we are no spies. 32 We be twelve brethren, fons of our Fa ther: one is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan. 33 And the man the lord of the country faid unto us, Hereby fhall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren bere with me, and take food for the famine of your houtholds, and be gone. 34 And bring your youngest brother unto me: then thall I know that you are no fpies, but that you are true men: 1 will I deliver you your brother, and ye fhall traffick in the land. 359 And it came to pass, as they emptied their facks, that behold, every mans bundle of money was in his fack: and when both they and their father faw the bundles of money, they were afraid. 36 And Jacob their father faid unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Jofeph is not, and Simeon not, and ye will take Beujainm away: all thefe things are against 1 third I MB brike: your - unte and je he be refore Benjamin fent thither. But if thou wilt not fend him, we will not go down: for the man faid unto us, Ye fhall not fee my face, except your brother be with you. 6 And Ifrael faid, Wherefore dealt ye fo ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother? 7 And they faid, The man asked us ftraitly of our ftate, and of our kindred, faying, L your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenour of these words: could we certainly know that he would fay, Bring your brother down? 8 And Judah faid unto Ifrael his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arife and go: that we may live and not die, both we, and thou, and alfo our little ones. 91 will be furety for him; of my hand fhalt thou require him: If I bring him not unto thee, and fet him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever. 10 For except we had lingred, furely now we had returned this fecond time. 11 And their father Ifrael faid unto them, If it mat be fo now, do this; take of the beft fruits in the land in your veflels, and carry down the man a prefent, a little balm, and a little hony, fpices, and myrrhe, nuts, and almonds. 12 And take double money in your hand and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your facks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an everfight. 13 Take alfo your brother, and arise, go again unto the man. 14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may fend away your other brother, and Benjamin: If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved. 15 And the men took that prefent, and they took double money in their hand; and Bentarain; and rofe up, and went down to Egypt, and flood before Jofeph. 16 And when Jofeph faw Benjamin with then, he faid to the ruler of his houfe, Bring stefe men home, and flay, and make ready: for thefe men fhall dine with me at noon. Jofeph entertaineth his brethrew. the man brought the men into Jofephs 17 And the man did as Jofeph bade: and house. were brought into Jofephs hule, and they 18 And the men were afraid, because they faid, Becaule of the money that was returned in our facks at the heft time, are we brought in; that he may feek occafion again us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our affes. And he brought Simeon out unto them. 24 And the man brought the men into Jofephs houfe, and gave them water, and they washed their feet, and he gave their afles provender. 25 And they made ready the prefent against Jofeph came at noon for they heard that they should eat bread there. 26 And when Jofeph came home, they brought hin the prefent which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth. 27 And he asked them of their welfare, and faid, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye fpake? Is he yer alive? 28 And they answered, Thy fervant our father is in good health, he is yet alive and they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance. 29 And he lift up his eyes, and faw his brother Benjamin, his mothers fon, and faid, & this your younger brother, of whom ye pake unto me? And he faid, God be gracious unto thee my fon. 30 And Jofeph made hafte; for his bowels did yern upon his brother: and he fought where to weep, and he entred into his cham ber, and wept there. 31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and faid, Set on bread. 32 And they fet on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egypti ans, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians. 33 And they fat before him, the first-born according to his birth-right, and the youngeft according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another. 34 And he took and fent meffes unto them from before him: but Benjamias mefs was five times fo much as any of theirs.
