Set up and electrotyped. Published October, 1906. Reprinted PREFACE THIS volume is based upon my Principles of English Grammar (1897), which I have carefully revised, modified, and in large part rewritten. The present volume represents, in my judgment, the amount and kind of grammatical theory and practice in analysis most suitable for secondary school pupils. I have not ventured to present a system of diagrams for use in analysis. Many teachers do not employ diagrams at all, and those who use them will naturally prefer their own systems. My hearty thanks are due to a number of correspondents, who have kindly pointed out misprints or inconsistencies in the previous volume. NEW YORK CITY, G. R. C. |
