The ACT S.

36 Therefore let all the houfe of Ifrael know affuredly, that God hath made that fame Jefus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Chrift.

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and faid unto Peter, and to the reft of the apoftles, Men and brethren, What thall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jefus Chrift, for the remiffion of fins, and ye Thall receive the gift of the Holy Ghoft.

39 For the promife is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God fhall call.

40 And with many other words did he teftify and exhort, faying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the fame day there were added unto them about three thousand fouls.

42 And they continued ftedfaftly in the apoftles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43 And fear came upon every foul; and many wonde and figns were done by the apofiles.

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45 And fold their poffeffions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had

need.

46 And they continuing daily with one ac cold in the temple, and breaking bread from house to houfe, did eat their meat with gladnefs and fingleness of heart;

47 Praifing God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily fuch as fhould be faved.

CHAP. III.

5 Peter and John reflore a lame man. 19 The people are exhorted to repentance. Now Peter and John went up together irto the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

3 Who feeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, afked an alms.

4 And Peter, fattening his eyes upon him, with John, faid, Look on us.

And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive fomething of them.

6 Then Peter faid, Silver and gold have I none; but fuch as I have give I thee: In the name of Jefus Christ of Nazareth rife up

and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up; and immediately his fect and

8 And he leaping up, ftood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

9 And all the people faw him walking, and praiting God:

Peter's boldness.

Ananias and Saphira.

28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counfel determined before to be done.

Chap. v. the pearl 6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, And John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerufalem.

7 And when they had fet them in the midft, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghoft, faid unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Ifrael,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Ifrael, that by the name of Jefus Chrift of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man ftand here before you whole.

11 This is the ftone which was fet at nought of you builders, which is become the head of

the corner.

12 Neither is there falvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven giver among men whereby we must be faved. 13 Now when they faw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jefus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed ftanding with them, they could fay nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go afide out of the council, they conferred among themfelves,

29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings and grant unto thy fervants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

30 By ftretching forth thine hand to heal ; and that figns and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jefus.

31 ¶ And when they had prayed, the place was thaken where they were affembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghoft, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one foul; neither faid any of them that aught of the things which he poffeffed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apoftles witnefs of the refurrection of the Lord Jefus : and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were poffeffors of lands or houses fold them, and brought the prices of the things that were fold,

35 And laid them down at the apoftles' feet: and diftribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Jofes, who by the apoftles was furnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The fon of confolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, fold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apoftles' feet. CHAP. V. Ananias and Sapphira fall down dead. 19 The apofiles delivered by an angel. BUT a certain man name. Ananias, with

16 Saying, What shall we do to thefe men? 1 for that indeed a notable miracle hath been

done by them, is manifeft to all them that dwell in Jerufalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But, that it spread no farther among the people, let us ftraitly threaten them, that they Ipeak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach, in the Dame of Jefus.

19 But Peter and John answered and faid unto them, Whether it be right in the fight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but fpeak the things which we have feen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punishm, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

22 For the man was above forty years old on whom this miracle of healing was thewed. 23¶ And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priets and elders had faid unto them.

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and faid, Lord, thou art God, which haft made heaven, and earth, and the fea, and all that in them is: 25 Who by the mouth of thy fervant David, haft faid, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Chrift.

17 For of a truth, againft thy holy child Jefus, whom thou haft anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Ifrael were gathered together,

Sapphira his wife, fold a p. ffeffion,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apoftles' feet.

3 But Peter faid, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghoft, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 While it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was fold, was it not in thine own power? Why haft thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou haft not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 And Ananias, hearing these words, fell down, and gave up the ghoft and great fear came on all them that heard thefe things.

6 And the young men arofe, wound him up, and carried him out and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye fold the land for fo much? And fhe faid, Yea, for fo much.

9 Then Peter faid unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and fhall carry thee out.

10 Then fell the down ftraightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghoft: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and carry. ing her forth, buried her by her husband.

17 Then the high priest rofe up and all they that were with him, (which is the fect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

18 And laid their hands on the apoftles, and put them in the common prifon.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prifon-doors, and brought them forth, and faid,

20 Go, ftand and fpeak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the fenate of the children of Ifrael, and fent to the prifon to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prifon, they returned, and told,

23 Saying, The prifon truly found we shut with all fatety, and the keepers ftanding without before the doors: hut when we had open

24 Now when the high priest and the cap. tain of the temple and the chief priefts heard thefe things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Then came one and told them, faying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prifon are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: (for they feared the people, left they should have been ftoned :)

27 And when they had brought them, they fet them before the council: and the high prieft asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we ftraitly command you, that ye thould not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerufalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apottles anfwered, and faid, We ought to obey God

rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jefus, whom ye flew, and hanged on a tree:

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Ifrael, and forgiveness of fins. 32 And we are his witnefes of thefe things; and fo is alfo the Holy Ghot, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not fo much as to fet his foot on: yet he promifed that he would give it to him for a poffeffion, and to his feed after him, when as yet he had no child.

22 And Mofes was learned in all the wif dom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

23 And when he was full forty years old, t came into his heart to vifit his brethren the

24 And feeing one of them fuffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppreffed, and fmote the Egyptian:
