Matthew called

The withered hand healed.

2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the fabbath-day, that they might accufe him.

S, MARK. 12 And immediately he arofe, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; infomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, faying, We never faw it on this fashion. 13 And he went forth again by the feafide; and all the multitude reforted unto him, and he taught them.

14 And as he paffed by, he saw Levi the fon of Alpheus fitting at the receipt of cuf tom, and faid unto him, Follow me. And he arofe, and followed him.

15 And it came to pass, that, as Jefus fat at meat in his house, many publicans and finners fat alfo together with Jefus and his difciples for there were many, and they followed him.

16 And when the fcribes and Pharifees faw him eat with publicans and finners, they faid unto his difciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and finners!

17 When Jefus heard it, he faith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the phyfician, but they that are fick: I came not to call the righteous, but finners to repentance.

18 And the difciples of John and of the Pharifees used to fait: and they come and fay unto him, Why do the difciples of John and of the Pharifees faft, but thy difciples fäft not?

19 And Jefus faid unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fat while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot tatt.

20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom fhall be taken away from them, and then thall they fait in thofe days.

21 No man alfo feweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment; elfe the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

22 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; elfe the new wine doth burit the bottles, and the wine is fpilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine mult be put into new bottles.

23 And it came to pafs, that he went through the corn fields on the fabbath day; and nis difciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn,

24 And the Pharifees faid unto him, Beheld, why do they on the fabbath day that which is not lawful?

25 And he faid unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him?

26 How he went into the houfe of God, in the days of Abiathar the high prieft, and did eat the thew-bread: which is not lawful to eat but for the priefts, and gave alfo to them which were with him?

27 And he faid unto them, The fabbath was made for man, and not man for the

abbath :

28 Therefore the Son of Man is Lord alfo

of the fabbath.

CHAP. III. The withered band healed. 13 The twelve apafties chofen. 31 Who are Chrift's brotber, and fifler, and mother.

AND he entered again into the fynagogue;

3 And he faith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.

4 And he faith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the fabbath-days, or to do evil! to fave life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he faith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And be ftretched it out: and kis hand was restored whole as the other.

6 And the Pharifees went forth, andftraight way took counsel with the Herodians againit him, how they might deftroy him.

7 But Jefus withdrew himself with his dif ciples to the fea and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judea,

8 And from Jerufalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, wher they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.

9 And he spake to his difciples, that fmall fhip should wait on him, because of the multitude, left they should throng him.

10 For he had healed many, infomuch that they preffed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.

11 And unclean fpirits, when they faw him, fell down before him, and cried, fay ing, Thou art the Son of God.

12 And he ftraitly charged them that they fhould not make him known.

13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.

14 And he ordained twelve, that they fhould be with him, and that he might fend them forth to preach,

15 And to have power to heal ficknelles, and to caft out devils.

16 And Simon he furnamed Peter

17 And James the fon of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; (and he fur named them Boanerges, which is, The fors of thunder ;)

18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Barth lomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the fon of Alpheus, and Thaddeus and Simon the Canaanite,

ly And Judas Iscariot, which alfo betray cd him: and they went into an houfe.

20 And the multitude cometh togethe again, fo that they could not fo much as cat bread.

21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him; for they said, He is betide himself.

22 And the fcribes which came down from Jerufalem faid, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils eafteth he out devils,

23 And he called them unto bim, and laid unto them in parables, How can Satan Cad

out Satan!

24 And if a kingdom be divided againftit felf, that kingdom cannot ftand.

25 And if a houfe be divided again itself, that houfe cannot ftand.

26 And if Satan rife up against himself, and

houfe, and fpoil his gods, except he will firit bind the ftrong ma; and then he will fpoil his house.

28 Verily I fay unto you, All fins fhall be forgiven unto the fons of men, and blafphemies wherewith foever they fhall blafpheme: 29 But he that fhall blafpheme against the Holy Ghoft hath never forgivenefs, but is in danger of eternal damnation:

30 Because they faid, He hath an unclean Spirit.

31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and ftanding without, fent unto him, calling him.

32 And the multitude fat about him; and they faid unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without feek for thee.

33 And he answered them, faying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

34 And he looked round about on them which fat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

35 For whofoever shall do the will of God, the fame is my brother, and my fifter, and mother. CHAP. IV.

The parable of the Jower: 14 the meaning thereof. 26 of the feed growing fecretly, 30 and of the muftard feed. AND he began again to teach by the fea

fide: and there was gathered unto him a great mulcitude, fo that he entered into a hip, and fat in the fea; and the whole multitude was by the fea on the land.

2 And he taught them many things by parables, and faid unto them in his doctrine, 3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a fower to fow:

felt

4 And it came to pafs, as he fowed, fome by the way-fide, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

And fome fell on ftony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it fprang up, because it had no depth of earth.

6 But when the fun was up, it was fcorched, and because it had no root, it withered away.

And fome fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded

no fruit.

8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that fprang up, and increafed and brought forth, fome thirty, and fome fixty, aud fome an hundred.

9 And he faid unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10 And when he was alone, they that were about him, with the twelve, alked of him the parable.

11 And he faid unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all thefe things are done in parables:

12 That fecing they may fee, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; left at any time they thould be converted, and their fins should be for given them.

13 And he faid unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

14 The fower foweth the word.

15 And thefe are they by the way-fide, where the word is fown; but, when they bave heard, Satan cometh immediately, and

16 And these are they likewife which are fown on tony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

17 And have no root in themfelves, and fo endure but for a time; afterward, when affliction or perfecution arifeth for the word's fake, immediately they are offended.

18 And thefe are they which are fown among thorns; fuch as hear the word,

19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lufts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20 And these are they which are fown on good ground; fuch as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, fome thirty fold, fome fixty, and fome an hundred.

21 And he faid unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or un der å bed? and not to be fet on a candie. ftick?

22 For there is nothing hid, which thall not be manifefted; neither was any thing kept fecret, but that it thould come abroad.

23 If any man have ears to hear, let him

hear.

24 And he faid unto them, Take' heed what ye hear. With what measure ye mete, it thall be measured to you: and unto you that hear fhall more be given.

25 For he that hath, to him fhall be g ven: and he thar hath not, from him thall be taken even that which he hath.

26 And he faid, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should caft feed into the ground;

27 And fhould fleep and rife night and day, and the feed fhould fpring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herfelf; firft the olade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the car.

29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the fickle, be caufe the harveft is come.

30 And he faid, Whereunto fhall we liken the kingdom of God! or with what comparifon thall we compare i:?

31 It is like a grain of muftard feed, which, when it is fown in the earth, is less than all the feeds that be in the earth:

32 But when it is fown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and fhoot. eth out great branches; fo that the fowls of the air may lodge under the thadow of it.

33 And with many fuch parables fpake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

34 But without a parable fpake he not unto them; and when they were aione, he expounded all things to his difciples.

35 And the fame day, when the even was come, he faith unto them, Let us pafs over unto the other fide.

35 And when they had fent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the thip. And there were alfo with him other little fhips.

37 And there arofe a great form of wind, and the waves beat into the thip, fo that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the Ddo.

CHAP. VI.

■ Chrift is contemned of his countrymen. 27 John Baptif beheaded.

21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birth-lay, made a fupper of Galilee;

AND he went out from thence, and came to his lords, high captains, and chief eftates

into his own country, and his difciples follow him.

2 And when the fabbath-day was come, he began to teach in the fynagogue: and many hearing him were aftonifhed, faying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wifdom is this which is given unto him, that even fuch mighty works are wrought by his hands?

3 Is not this the carpenter, the fon of Mary, the brother of James, and Jofes, and of Juda and Simon? and are not his fitters here with us? And they were offended at him.

4 But Jefus faid unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, fave that he laid his hands upon a few fick folk and healed them.

6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages teaching.

7 And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to fend them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean fpirits;

8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, fave a staff only; no Icrip, no bread, no money in their purse :

y But be thod with fandals; and not put

on two coats.

10 And he said unto them, in what place foever ye enter into an houfe, there abide till ye depart from that place.

1 And whofoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, thake off the duft under your feet for a teftimony against them. Verily I fay unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

13 And they caft out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were fick, and healed them.

14 And king Herod heard of Am: (for his name was spread abroad;) and he faid, That John the Baptift was rifen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do thew forth themselves in him.

15 Others faid, That it is Elias. And others faid, That it is a prophet or as one of the prophets.

16 But when Herod heard thereof he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is rifes from the dead.

17 For Herod himself had sent forth and taid hold upon John, and bound him in prifon for Herodias's fake, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her.

18 For John had faid unto Herod, it is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but the could not.

ao For Herod feared John, knowing that

22 And when the daughter of the faid Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod, and them that fat with him, the king laid unto the damfel, Aik of me whatfoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

23 And he fware unto her, Whatfoever thou shalt aik of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

24 And the went forth, and faid unto her mother, What shall I afk! And the faid, The head of John the Baptift.

25 And the came in ftraightway with hafte unto the king, and asked, faying, I will that thougive me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptift.

26 And the king was exceeding forry; yet, for his oath's fake, and for their fakes which fat with him, he would not reject her.

27 And immediately the king fent an exe cutioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prifon;

28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damfel: and the damfel gave

it to her mother.

29 And when his difciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpfe, and laid ít in a tomb.

30 And the apoftles gathered themselves together unto Jefus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught,

31 And he faid unto them, Come ye your. felves apart into a defert place, and rett a whie: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leifure fo much as to eat. 32 And they departed into a defert place by ship privately.

33 And the people faw them departing, and many knew him, and ran a-foot thither out of all cities, and out-went them, and came together unto him.

34 And Jefus, when he came out, faw much people, and was moved with compallion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a thepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

35 And when the day was now far spent, his difciples came unto him, and faid, This is a defert place, and now the time is far paffed;

36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the vil lages, and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.

37 He answered and faid unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they fay unto him. Shall we go and buy two hundred penny. worth of bread, and give them to eat?

38 He faith unto them, How many loaves have yet go and fee. And when they knew, they lay, Five, and two fishes.

39 And he commanded them to make all fit down by companies upon the green grass. 40 And they fat down in ranks, by hun dreds, and by fifties.

41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and bleffed, and brake the loaves, and gave
