God's judgments againft

20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and defolate, with his face toward the eaft fea, and his hinder part toward the utmost fea, and his Aink thall come up, and his ill favour thall come up, because he hath done great things.

21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.

22 Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the partures of the wildernefs do fpring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their firength.

23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will caufe to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

24 And the floors fhall be full of wheat, and the fats fhall overflow with wine and oil.

25 And I will reftore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the carkerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I fent among you.

26 And ye hall eat in plenty, and be fatisfied, and praife the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wonderously with you and my people thall never be athamed.

7 Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have fold them, and wil return your recompence upon your own

head:

8 And I will tell your fons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they hall fell them to the Sa beans, to a people far oft: for the LORD hath spoken it,

9 Proclaim me this among the Gentiles; prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:

10 Beat your plowfhares into swords, and your pruninghooks futo fpears: let the weak fay, I am strong.

11 Affenible yourfelves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourfelves together round about: thither caile thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.

12 Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will 1fit to judge all the heathen round about.

13 Put ye in the fickle, for the harveft is ripe: come get ye down; for the prefs is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

27 And ye fhall know that I am in the midit of Ifrael, and that I am the LORD your God, and none elfe: and my people hall never be ashamed.

28 And it shall come to pafs afterward, that I will pour out my Ipirit upon all flesh; and your fons and your daughters fhall prophefy, your old men thall dream dreams, your young men thall fee vifions:

29 And alfo upon the fervants and upon the handmaids in thofe days will I pour out my Spirit.

30 And I will fhew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31 The fun fhall be turned into darknels, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD

31 And it fhall come to pafs, that whofoever fhall call on the name of the LORD fhall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerufalem fhall be deliverance, as the LORD hath faid, and in the remnant whom the LORD fhall call.

14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decition: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decifion.

15 The fun and the moon fall be darkene 1, and the ftars thall withdraw their fhining.

16 The LORD alfo fhall rear out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerufalem; and the heavens and the earth fhall thake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the ftrength of the children of Ifrael.

17 So fhall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mounthrough her any tain: then hall Jerufalem be holy, and there fhall no trangers pafs

18 And it fhall come to pafs in that day, that the mountains fhall drop down new wine, and the hills fhall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah fhall How with waters, and a fountain hall come forth of the houfe of the LORD, and fhall water the valley of Shittim.

3 And they have caft lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and fold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

19 Egypt fhall be a defolation, and Edom fhall be a defolate wildernefs, for the violence again the children of Judah, because they have thed innocent t'ood in their land.

20 But Judah fhall dwell for ever, and Je rufalem from generation to generation.

God's judgments upon Syria, 6 upon the Philiftines, 9 upon Tyrus, 11 upon Edom, 13

upon Ammon.

HE words of Amos, who was among the cerning Ifrael in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the ion of Joath king Ifrael, two years before the earthquake.

2 And he faid, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerufalem; and the habitations of the fhepherds shall mourn, and the op of Carmel fhall wither.

3Thus faith the LORD; For three tranf. gretions of Damafcus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they have threffed Gilead with threshing inftruments of iron:

4 But I will fend a fire into the house of Hazael, which thall devour the palaces of

Ben-hadad.

51 will break alfo the bar of Damafcus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the fceptre from the houfe of Eden: and the people of Syria fhall go into captivity unto Kir, faith the LORD.

Thus faith the LORD; For three tranf grethons of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they carried away captive the whole capti vity, to deliver them up to Edom:

7 But I will fend a fire on the wall of Gaza, which thall devour the palaces thereof:

8 And I will cut off the inhabitant from Afhdod, and him that holdeth the fceptre from Ahkelon, and I will turn mine hand against kron: and the remnant of the Philiftimes hall perish, faith the Lord God.

9 Thus faith the LoxD; For three tranfgretions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not Turn away the punishment thereof: because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly co

venant:

10 But I will fend a fire on the wall of Ty. rus, which fhall devour the palaces thereof. Thus faith the LORD; For three tranfgreifions of Edom, and for four, I will not Turn away the punishment thereof: becaufe he did purfue his brother with the word, and did caft off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and kept his wrath for ever:

12 But I will fend a fire upon Teman, which thall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13 Thus faith the LORD; For three tranf greinions of the children of Ammon, and for fear, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they have ripped up the wo. men with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

14 But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it fhall devour the palaces there of, with fhouting in the day of battle, with a tempeft in the day of the whirlwind:

15 And their king fhall go into captivity, he and his princes together, faith the LORD. CHAP. I.

1 God's wrath against Moab, 4 upon Judah, 6 and upon Ifrael. 9 God complaineth of their unthankfulness.

O S.

THUS faith the LORD; Por three trans. greffions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; be cause he burned the bones of the king of Edoin into lime.

2 But I will fend a fire upon Moab, and it fhall devour the palaces of Kirioth and Mo ab thall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the found of the trumpet:

3 And I will cut off the judge from the mida thereof, and will flay all the princes thereof with him, faith the LORD.

4 Thus faith the LORD; For three tranf greifions of Judah, and for four, 1 will not turn away the punifoment thereof; becaufe they have defpifed the law of the Logn, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caufed them to err, after the which their

fathers have walked :

5 But I will fend a fire upon Judah, and it fhall devour the palaces of jerufalem.

6 Thus faith the LORD; For three tranf greffions of Ifrael, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof: because they fold the righteous for filver, and the poor for a pair of fhoes;

7 That pant after the duft of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn afide the way of the meek; and a man and his father will go in unto the fame maid, to profane my holy name:

8 And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by ery altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the houfe of their god.

9 Yet deftroyed I the Amorite before them, whofe height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I deftroyed his fruit froni above, and his roots from beneath.

10 Alfo I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to poffefs the land of the Amorite.

11 And I raifed up of your fons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. is it not even thus, O yo children of Ifrael!

faith the LORD.

12 But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, faying, Pro phefy not.

13 Behold, I am prefed under you, as a cart is preffed that is full of theaves.

14 Therefore the fight fhall perish from the fwift, and the trong shall not strengthea his torce, nei her shall the mighty deliver himself.

15 Neither fhall he ftand that handleth the bow, and he that is fwift of toot thall not de liver himfeif: neither shall he that rideth the horfe deliver himself.

15 And he that is courageous among the mighty hall flee, away naked in that day, faith the LORD.

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? thall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

7 Surely the LORD GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his fecret unto his fervants the prophets.

II Therefore thus faith the Lord GoD; An adverfary the re fhall be even round about the land; and he thall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces fhall be fpoiled.

12 Thus faith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; fo thall the children of Ifrael be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damafcus in a couch.

7 And alfo I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harveft: and I caufed it to rain upon one city, and caufed it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

8 So two chree cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not fatished: yet have ye not returned unto me, faith the LORD.

9 have fmitten you with blafting nd mildew; when your gardens' and your vineyards, and your fig trees, and your olive trees increafed, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, faith the LORD.

4 Come to Beth-el, and tranfgrefs; at Gilgal multiply tranfgreifion; and bring your facrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

2 The virgin of Ifrael is fallen; the shall no more rife: the is forfaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

CHAP. IV.

3 For thus faith the Lord Gon; The city that went out Ay a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred fhall leave ten, to the house of Ifrael.

12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, o Ifrael: and becaufe I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O ifrael.

13 For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darknefs, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD the God of hofts, is his name.

4 For thus faith the LORD unto the house of Ifracl, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

5 But feek not Beth-cl, nor enter into Gilgal, and pafs not to Ber-theba: for Gilgal fhall furely go into captivity and Beth-cl flatcoine to nought.

6 Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; left he break out like fire in the house of Jofeph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.

7 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave of righteoufnefs in the earth,

8 Seek him that maketh the feven ftars and Orion, and turneth the fhadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that letn for the waters of the fea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:
