Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of thy throne;a

Loving-kindness and truth go before thy face.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound:

They shall walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance,

16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day,

And in thy righteousness shall they be exalted; 17 For thou art the glory of their strength,

And in thy favour shall our horn be exalted; 18 For of Jehovah is our shield,

19

And of the Holy one of Israel is our King.

Then thou spakest in vision to thy godly

one,

And saidst, "I have laid help upon one that is mighty,

How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever?

Shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47 Remember, as regards me, what my life is." Wherefore hast thou created all the children

of men in vain ?

That shall deliver his soul from the power of

49 Where are thy former loving-kindnesses, O

my Lord?

Thou hast sworn unto David in thy faithfulness. 50 Remember, O my Lord, the reproach of thy servants,

Which I bear in my bosom, even the reproach of all the many peoples,

Wherewith thine enemies, O Jehovah, have reproached,

Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed one.

52 Blessed be Jehovah for ever. Amen, and Amen.

PART IV.

PSALM XC.

A Prayer by Moses, the man of God.

1 O MY Lord, thou hast been our habitation

Throughout all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Yea, before the earth and the world were formed,

And for ever and ever, thou art God. 3 Thou causest man to return to dust,

And sayest, "Return, ye children of men,'
4 Though a thousand years in thine eyes
Are but as yesterday when it is passed,
And as a watch in the night.

5 Thou sweepest them away: they are like a sleep.

They are like grass which groweth up in the morning;

6 In the morning it flourisheth and groweth up,

In the evening it droopeth and withereth.

7 For we are consumed by thine anger, And by thy wrath are we terrified.

8 Thou settest our iniquities before thee,

Our hidden sins in the light of thy counte

nance.

9 For all our days pass away in thy fury:

We spend our years as a tale that is told. 10 As for the days of our years, they are threescore years and ten;

And if, by reason of might, they be fourscore

years,

Yet is their strength toil and sorrow;

For it quickly passeth, and we fly away. 11 Who knoweth the strength of thine anger, Or, according to the fear due to thee, thy fury? 12 So teach us to number our days,

13

That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Return, O Jehovah,-how long?

And let it repent thee concerning thy

servants.

14 O satisfy us early with thy loving-kindness, That we may shout for joy and be glad all

our days.

15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us,

And the years wherein we have seen evil. 16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, And let thine honour be upon their children.

a Ps. cxxxv. 14.

17 Yea, let the beauty of Jehovah our God be

upon us,

And establish thou the work of our hands

upon us;

Yea, the work of our hands, establish thou it.

PSALM XCI.

HE that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High,

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

To Jehovah I say, "Thou art my refuge and my fortress,

"My God, in whom I trust."

Surely, he himself will deliver thee

From the snare of the fowler, and the destructive pestilence.

4 He will cover thee with his feathers,

And under his wings shalt thou take refuge : His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not fear the terror by night, Nor the arrow that flieth by day,

6 Nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness, Nor the plague that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand,
