2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, And thy afflicted ones with judgment.

3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people,a

And the hills, by righteousness.

And break in pieces the oppressor.

5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun endureth,

6

And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

He shall descend as rain upon the mown field,

As showers that water the earth.

;

7 In his days shall the righteous one flourish And there shall be abundance of peace as long.

as the moon endureth.

8 He shall rule also from sea to sea,

PART III.

1.

PSALM LXXIII.

A Psalm by Asaph.

TRULY God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a pure heart;

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone,

My steps had well nigh slipped;

For I was envious of the arrogant,

When I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 For there are no bands in their death," But their strength is firm.

5 They are not in the toil of other men, Neither are they plagued like other men ; 6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a

collar,

Violence covereth them as a garment.

7 Their eyes stand out with fatness,

The imaginations of their heart overleap all bounds.

a Isa, xxii. 13.

8 They mock and speak evil :

They speak proudly concerning oppression. 9 They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth. 10 (Therefore do his people return hither,

And abundant waters are sucked up by them."

11 They say also, "How doth God know? "And is there knowledge with the Most High ?"

12

13

Behold, these are the wicked,

And they are ever prosperous; they increase in wealth.

Truly in vain have I cleansed my heart,
And washed my hands in innocency;b

14 For all the day am I plagued,

And my rebuke cometh every morning. 15 If I should say, "I will speak thus," Behold I should transgress against the generation of thy children.

16 When I thought to know this,

It was toil in mine eyes,

17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God, Until I understood their latter end.

18 Truly thou settest them in slippery places;

a Job xxix. 19; 2 Chron. xviii. 1, 2.

b Ps. xxvi. 6.
