They strengthen themselves in an evil

matter,

They speak of hiding snares;

They say, 6 They devise iniquities;

"Who shall see them?

[ocr errors]

"We have accomplished the devised device." Both the inward part of every one of them, and the heart are deep.

7 But God will shoot at them an arrow;

Suddenly shall they be wounded:

8 Yea, he will cause them to fall,-their own tongue shall come upon them;

All that see them shall flee away.

9 And all men shall fear,

And shall show forth God's doing;

For they shall understand that it is his work. 10 The righteous one shall be glad in Jehovah, and shall take refuge in him;

And all the upright in heart shall glory.

PSALM LXV.

For the chief Musician. A Psalm by David. A Song.

1

PRAISE waiteth for thee, O God, in

Zion;

And unto thee shall the vow be paid.

20 thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall

all flesh come.

3 Touching iniquities, they have prevailed

against me:

As for our transgressions, it is thou that hast purged them away.a

4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to come near, that he may dwell

in thy courts:

We shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

By terrible things in righteousness hast thou
answered us, O God of our salvation,

Thou, that art the confidence of all the dis-
tant ends of the earth and of the sea.
He establisheth the mountains by his strength,
being girded with might :

He stilleth the noise of the seas,

The noise of their billows, and the tumult of

the peoples.

8 They also that dwell in the uttermost parts fear thy signs.

Thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to shout for joy,

9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: Thou greatly enrichest it.

The stream of God is full of water:

Thou preparest their corn, when thou hast so

prepared it.

10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows* thereof.

Thou makest it soft with showers: thou

blessest the springing thereof.

11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness, And thy paths drop fatness;

12 They drop upon the pastures of the wilder

ness,

And the hills are girded with joy.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks,

The valleys also are covered over with corn:
They make a joyful noise, they also sing.

PSALM LXVI.

For the chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm.

MAKE a joyful noise unto God, all the

earth:

2 Sing praises to the glory of his name.

Make his praise glorious.

3 Say unto God, "How terrible are thy works!

"Through the abundance of thy strength

"All the earth shall worship thee,

"And shall sing praises to thee; they shall

sing praises to thy name."

Come and see the works of God:

Selah.

How terrible his deeds toward the children of

men!

6 He turned the sea into dry land;

They passed through the river on foot:
There were we glad in him.

7 He ruleth by his might for ever:
His eyes watch the nations;

Let not the rebellious exalt* themselves. Selah.

O bless our God, ye peoples,

And cause the voice of his praise to be heard,

9 Who holdeth our soul in life,

And suffereth not our foot to be moved.*

10 For thou, O God, didst try us;

Thou didst try us, as silver is tried.

11 Thou didst bring us into the net,

Thou didst lay a heavy load upon our loins, 12 Thou didst cause men to ride over our heads,* We went through fire and through water; But thou didst bring us out into a wealthy place.

a Ps. cxxi. 3.

13

I will go into thy house with burnt offerings:

I will pay thee my vows,

14 Which my lips have uttered,

And my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.

15 I will offer unto thee burnt offerings of

16

fatlings,

With the incense of rams;

I will offer bullocks with he-goats.

Come and hear, and I will declare,
All ye that fear God,

What he hath done for

my soul.

17 I called upon him with my mouth,

And his praise was on my tongue. 18 If I had seen iniquity in my heart,

My Lord would not have heard me;"

19 But verily God hath heard me,

Selah.

He hath attended unto the voice of my prayer. 20 Blessed be God that hath not removed my

prayer,

Nor his loving-kindness from me.
