[blocks in formation]

For vain is the salvation of man.

12 With God we shall do valiantly;

For it is he that will tread down our adversaries.

PSALM LXI.

For the chief Musician. On stringed instruments.* By David.

[ocr errors]

2

HEAR my cry, O God;

Attend unto my prayer.

From the end of the earth will I call upon

thee, when my heart is overwhelmed :— Guide me to the rock that is higher than I;

3 For thou hast been my refuge,

And a strong tower from the enemy.

4 I will abide in thy tent for ever,

I will take refuge in the hiding-place of thy

wings;

5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows,

6

Selah.

Thou hast given me the heritage of those that

fear thy name.

Thou wilt add days to the days of the King; His years shall be as generations;

a Ps. xliv. 5.

7 He shall dwell before God for ever.

O appoint loving-kindness and truth to preserve him.

8 So shall I sing praises to thy name for ever, Paying my vows, every day.

2

From him is my salvation.

He only is my rock and my salvation;

He is my high tower; I shall not be greatly moved.

3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man ?

Ye shall be killed all of you:

As a bowing wall shall ye be, and as an overthrown fence.

4 They only consult to cast him down from his

excellency:

They take pleasure in lies;

They bless with their mouth, but they curse

in their inward part.

My soul, wait thou only upon God;

Selah.

6

For from him is my hope.

He only is my rock and my salvation;

He is my high tower; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory :

My strong rock, my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times, ye people;

9

Pour out your heart before him:
God is a refuge for us.

Selah.

Men of low degree are only vanity, and men of high degree, a lie:

Laid in the balance, they are together lighter

than vanity.

10 Trust ye not in oppression,

11

And become not vain in robbery:

When wealth increaseth, set not your heart

upon it.

God hath spoken once,

Twice have I heard this,

That strength belongeth unto God.

12 Also unto thee, O my Lord, belongeth lovingkindness:

For, as for thee, thou rewardest every man

according to his work.

PSALM LXIII.

A Psalm by David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

1 O GOD, thou art my God, early will I seek thee:

My soul thirsteth for thee,

My flesh longeth for thee,

In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is,

2 To see thy strength and thy glory,

3

As I have beheld thee in the holy place.

Because thy loving-kindness is better than life,

My lips shall praise thee.

4 Thus will I bless thee as long as I live;

I will lift up my hands to thy name.*

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness,

And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful.

lips,

6 When I remember thee upon my bed,

And meditate upon thee in the night watches. 7 Because thou hast been my help,

Therefore in the shadow of thy wings do I shout for joy.

8 My soul cleaveth unto thee:

a Ps. cxxxiv. 1, 2.

Thy right hand upholdeth me.

9 But as to those that seek after my soul to destroy it,

They shall go into the lowest parts of the earth.

10 They shall be delivered over unto the power of the sword,

11

1

They shall be a portion for jackals.

But the King shall be glad in God;

Every one that sweareth by him shall glory; But the mouth of those that speak falsehoods shall be stopped.

PSALM LXIV.

For the chief Musician. A Psalm by David.

HEAR my voice, O God, in my complaint: Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

2 Hide me from the assembly of evil doers,

From the multitude of the workers of

iniquity,*

3 That have sharpened their tongue like a sword,

And prepared their arrows, even bitter words, 4 That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect one;

Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

a Ps. lxxxvi. 14.
