[The following course of Scripture Reading is recommended by that excellent Christian and eminent Divine, the late Bislop Porteus, as equally adapted for the closet, the family, or the school ; the less luminous portions, with the Jewish ceremonial laws, genealogies, and other subjects not so important or interesting to youthful readers being reserved for their future and more matured reflection.]

OLD T'ESTAMENT.

The chapters with the letter (1) placed after the figure, are historical. The others are more exclusively of a spiritual and moral nature, and highly suitable for occasional meditation, and particularly adapted to be read alone by young persons to their parents or sick friends ; thus saving them the embarrassment and loss of time which frequently accrue from their being called upon to select passages on their own judgment.
