LESSON XXIII.

From the 27th Chapter of Saint Matthew.

Now when the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of the rock : and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed.

From the 24th Chapter of Saint Luke.

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices1 which they had prepared.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold,

1 The disciples brought the spices to wrap up with the body, to preserve it from decay.

And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.

WHO buried Jesus Christ?

LESSON XXIV.

From the 20th Chapter of Saint John.

THE other disciples said to Thomas,1 We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
