concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air : and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

CHAP. V. 1 He proceedeth in the description of Christ's second coming

to judgment, 16 and giveth divers precepts, 23 and so

concludeth. BUT of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no

need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep as do others; but let us watcb and be sober.

7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and ad

monish you;

13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, bet patient toward all men.

15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man ; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

16 Rejoice evermore.
17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks : for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19 Quench not the spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 2 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify yor: wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and horiy be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
25 Brethren, pray for us.
26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen. The first epistle unto the Thessalonians was written from

The First Epistle of PAUL the Apostle to

TIMOTHY.

СНАР. І. 1 Timothy is put in mind of the charge which was given

unto him by Paul. 5 The end of the law. 11 Paul's

calling to be an apostle. PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of

God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

? Unto Timothy my own son in the faith : grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father, and Jesus Christ our Lord.

3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which ministèr questions rather than godly edifying, which is in faith : so do.

5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

6 From which some, having swerved, have turned aside unto vain janglius;

7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it layfully;

9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers.

10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for men stealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

12 And I ihank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the

13 Who was before a blasphemer and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

15 This is a faithful saying, and worihy of all acceptation, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

16 Howbeit, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long suffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to ife everlasting.

17 Now unto the King eterual, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

18 This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare ;

19 Holding faith and a good conscience; which some Laving put away, concerning faith have made shipwreck :

20 Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.

CEAP. II. I Prayers to be made for all men, and the reason why. 9 How women should be attired.

12 They are not permitted to teach. 1

Exhort therefore that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men ;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may Jead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus ;

6 Who gave himself a ransoin for all, to be testified in

due time.

7 Whereunto

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not ;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

10. But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceive. I was in the transgression.

15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

The Second Epistle of PAUL the Apostle to

TIMOTHY:

CAP. II. 1 Timothy exhorteth to constancy and perseverance, 15 and

to shev himself approved. THOU my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ

Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

3 Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life ; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned except he strive: lawfully.
