Feb. 18. FEAR NOT MAN.

What from Christ the soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him for ever,
The eternal covenant stands.

THE fear of man bringeth a snare ; but
whoso putteth his trust in the Lord
shall be safe.-PROV. xxix. 25.

Feb. 19. BE JUST, IF POOR.

The world's temptations may assail,
Its friendship cease, its comforts fail ;
But if Thy peace, dear Lord, be mine,
All else submissive I resign.

BETTER is the poor that walketh in his
integrity than he that is perverse in his

lips, and is a fool.-PROV. xix. 1.

Feb. 20. SEEK HONEST FRIENDS.

Give me to bear Thy easy yoke,
And every moment watch and pray,
And still to things eternal look,
And hasten to thy glorious day.

FAITHFUL are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.-PROV. xxvii. 6.

BE

Feb. 21. DECEIVE NOT

Teach me to shun the first dark thought,
The wandering of the will;

Oh, keep the soul Thy blood has bought,
And let me serve Thee still.

E not a witness against thy neighbour
without cause; and deceive not with

thy lips.-PROV. xxiv. 28.

Feb. 22.

GOD'S CHASTENING IS

GOOD.

By the thoughtless world derided,
Still I love the word of God;
'Tis the crook by which I'm guided;
Often 'tis a chastening rod.

WHOM

the Lord loveth He correcteth : even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.-PROV. iii. 11, 12.

Feb. 23. ENVY NOT SINNERS.

LET

Sin is with man at morning break,
And through the livelong day

Deafens the ear that fain would wake
To Nature's simple lay.

ET not thine heart envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long.-PROV. xxiii. 17.

Feb. 24.

TRUTH IS GREAT.

I said, I will look to my ways,
Lest with my tongue I sin :
In sight of wicked men my mouth
With bridle I'll keep in.

THE lips of truth shall be established for
ever; but a lying tongue is but for a
moment.-PROV. xii. 19.

Feb. 25. RIGHTEOUSNESS KEEP-
ETH.

Oh, in each wind, each fountain flow,
Each whisper of the shade,

Grant me, my God, Thy voice to know,
And not to be afraid.

RIGHTEOUSNESS keepeth him that is

upright in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.-PROV. xiii. 6.

Feb. 26.

DECEIVE NOT THYSELF.

But to the wicked man

God saith, My laws and truth

Shouldst thou declare? how dar'st thou take
My covenant in thy mouth?

THERE is a generation that are pure in
their own eyes, and yet is not washed
from their filthiness.-PROV. xxx. 12.

Feb. 27. BE NOT COVETOUS.

Vain are the hopes the sons of men
Upon their works have built;
Their hearts by nature are unclean,
Their actions full of guilt.

THERE is a generation whose teeth are
as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives,
to devour the poor from off the earth, and
the needy from among men.-Prov. xxx.

Feb. 28. WISDOM BETTER THAN

GOLD.

For what shall man exchange his soul,
Born to survive the glorious sun,
When age on age has ceased to roll,
Its endless being but begun?

HOW much better is it to get wisdom
than gold! and to get understanding

rather to be chosen than silver!-PROV.
xvi. 16.

Feb. 29. BE CONTENT WITH
LITTLE.

RE

Revive Thy work, O Lord,
In our own souls, we pray;
May all for the great harvest-home
Be ripening day by day.

EMOVE far from me vanity and lies;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with food convenient for me.-
PROV. xxix. 8.

Mar. 1. EVIL PROFITETH NOT.
Oh, may I still Thy favour prove!
Still grant me gratitude and love.
Let truth and virtue guard my heart,
Nor peace, nor hope, nor joy depart.

TREASURES of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.-PROV. x. 2.

Mar. 2. RICHES ARE VAIN.
Our feeble footsteps guiding

When from the path we stray,

Who leads to bliss abiding?
Christ is our only way.

THER

HERE is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.-PROV. xiii. 7.

Mar. 3. RICHES OF WISDOM.

RI

Wisdom has treasures greater far
Than east or west unfold;

And her rewards more precious are
Than brightest stores of gold.

ICHES and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue as choice silver.-PROV. viii. 18, 19.
