Thus he showed me and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb
line in his hand. And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then
said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by
them any more."-Amos vii. 7-8.

CHAPTER XIII.

VER. 18, 19. "And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first."

The church in Thyatira is spoken unto as one progressing in every good word and work, and not far from perfection. I know thy first works, the Lord saith, when thou wert struggling into existence as a portion of my body. I know thy charity, thy love to me, and thy love to the brethren, for thou hast always given the right hand of fellowship to christians of other churches; thou hast not refused to eat with the saints, to hold communion, as occasion offered, with others not connected with thy section of my church. I know thy service. Thou hast done much good to the body of thy Lord; thy testimony in this matter has been most valuable, and I have blessed it as one means, in these last days, of preparing my body for its earthly glory, its transfiguration, when the church shall ascend that exceeding high mountain, and when Moses and Eliasthe law and the prophets-shall appear also in glory. I know thy faith. It has been tried; thy testimony
