41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might fee the utmoft part of the people. CHA P. XXIII.

Nd Balaam faid unto Balak, Build A me here feven altars, and prepare me here feven oxen, and feven rams... 2 And Balak did as Balaam had fpoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.

3 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go : peradventure the LORD will come to meet me and whatfoever he fheweth me, I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

4 And God met Balaam ; and he faid unto him, I have prepared feven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.

Balaams parable.

and built feven altars, and offered a bul lock and a ram on every altar.

15 And he faid unto Balak, Stand here by thy bernt-offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and faid, Go again unto Balak, and fay thus.

17 And when he came to him, behold, he ftood by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak faid unto him, What hath the LORD fpoken?

18 And he took up his parable, and faid, Rife up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou fon of Zippor:

19 God is not a man that he fhould lie, neither the fon of man, that he fhould repent: hath he faid, and fhall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and fhall he not make it good?

20 Behold, I have received commandment to blefs; and he hath blessed, and cannot reverfe it,

8 How fhall I curfe, whom God hath not curfed? or how fhall I defie, whom the LORD hath not defied?

25 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Neither curfe them at all, nor bleis them at all.

10 Who can count the duft of Jacob, 26 But Balaam answered and faid unto and the number of the fourth part of If-Balak, Told nor 1 thee, faying, All chas rael? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my laft end be like his.

11 And Balak faid unto Balaam, What haft thou done unto me? I took thee to curfe mine enemies, and behold, thou haft bleffed them altogether."

12 And he answered and faid, Muft I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?

13 And Balak faid inte him, Come, I pray thee, with meunto another place, from whence thou mayft fee them: thou thalt fee but the utmoft part of them, and fhalt not fee them all and curfe me them from thence.

14 And he brought him into the Geld of Zophim, to the top of Pifgah,

the LORD fpeaketh, that I must do?

27 And Ba'ak faid unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God, that thou mayst cuise me them from thence.

28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jefhimon.

29 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Build me here feven alrars, and prepare me here feven bullocks, and feven rams.

30 And Balak did as Balaam had faid, and offered a bullock and a raira on every altar.

CHAP. XXIV.
Balaam prophestern Israels happiness.

His prophecy of Chrift.

And when Balaam faw that it plea- and faid, Balaam the fon of Beor hath

fed the LORD to blefs Ifrael, he went not as at other times, to feek for enchantments, but he fet his face toward the wilderness.

2 And Balaam lift up his eyes, and he faw Ifrael abiding in his tents according to their tribes, and the fpirit of God came upon him.

3 And he took up his parable, and faid, Balaam the fon of Beor hath faid, and the man whofe eyes are open, hath faid:

4 He hath faid, which heard the words of God, which faw the vifion of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, Olfrael!

6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river fide, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD bath planted, and as cedar-trees befide the

waters.

7 He fhall pour the water out of his buckets, and his feed fhall be in many waters, and his king fhall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom fhall be exalted. 8 God brought him forth out of Egypt, he hath as it were the ftrength of an unicorn: he fhall eat up the nations his enemies, and fhall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who fhall ftir him up? Bleffed is he that bleffeth thee, and curfed is he that curfeth thee.

10 And Balaks anger was kindled againft Balaam, and he fmote his hands together: and Balak faid unto Balaam, I called thee to curfe mine enemies, and behold thou haft altogether bleffed them thefe three times.

11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto

kept thee back from honour.

12 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Spake I not alfo to thy meffengers which thou fenteft unto me, faying,

13 If Balak would give me his houfefull of filver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own nrind; but what the LORD faith, that will Ifpeak?

14 And now behold, I go unto my people come therefore, and I will advertise thee, what this people fhall do to thy people in the latter days.

15 And he took up his parables

faid, and the man whofe eyes are open, hath faid:

16 He hath faid, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the moft High, which faw the vifion of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:

17 I fhall fee him, but not now: I fhall behold him, but not nigh: there fhall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre fhall rife out of Ifracl, and fhall fmite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

18 And Edom fhall be a poffeffion, Seir alfo thall be a poffeffion for his enemies, and Ifrael fhall do valiantly.

19 Out of Jacob fhall come be that fhall have dominion, and fhali destroy him that remaineth of the city.

20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and faid, Amalek was the firft of the nations, but his latter end fhall be that he perifh for ever.

21 And he looked on the Kenites; and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwelling-place, and thou putteft thy neft ina rock.

22 Nevertheless, the Kenite fhall be wafted until Asfhur fhall carry thee away captive.

23 And he took up his parable, & faid, Alas,who fhall live when God doth this! 24 And fhips fball come from the coaft of Chittim, and shall affli&t Ashur, and fhall affli&t Eber, and he also fhall pe rifh for ever.

25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak alfo went his way.

CHA P. XXV. 1 The Ifraelites whoredom and idolatry. 6 Zimri and Cozbi flain.

10 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a fign.

11 Notwithstanding the children of Korah died not.

30. These are the fons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites: of Helek, the family of the Helekites:

31 And of Afriel, the family of the Afrielites and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites: ::

32 And of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites: and of Hepher the family of the Hepherites.

33 And Zelophehad the fon of Hepher had no fons, but daughters: and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad, were Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

34 Thefe are the families of Manaffeh, and thole that were numbred of them, fifty and two thousand and (even hunared.

35 There are the fons of Ephraim after their families of Shuchelah, the family of the Shuthalhites; of Becher, the family of the Bachrites: of Tahan, e family of the Tabanies.

41 Thefe are the fons of Benjamin after their families: and they that were numbred of them, were forty and five thousand and fix hundred.

42 These are the fons of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan after their families.

43 All the families of the Shubamites according to thofe that were numbred of them, were threescore and four thousand and four hundred.

44 Of the children of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites: of Jefui, the family of the Jefuites: of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.

45 Of the fons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.

46 And the name of the daughter of Afher, was Sarah.

47 There are the families of the fons of Afher, according to thofe that were numbred of them; who were filty and three thoufand and four hundred.

48 Of the fons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites: ot Guni, the family of the Gunites:

49 Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites: of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.

50 Thefe are the families of Naphtali according to their families: and they that were numbred of them, were forty and five thousand and four hundred.

51 These were the numbred of the children of Ifrael, fix hundred thousand anda thousand even hundred and thirty. 52¶ And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 2 quâk

2. And they ftood before Mofes, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, faying,

3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together againft the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own fin, and had no fons.

4. Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no fon? Give unto us therefore a poffeffion among the brethren of our father.

5 And Mofes brought their cause be fore the LORD.

And the LORD fpakeunto Mofes,

7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt furely give them a pof feilion of an inheritance among their fathers brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pafs unto them.

8 And thou shalt fpeak unto the chil dren of Ifrael, faying, If a man die, and have no fon, then ye fhall caufe his inheritance to pafs unto his daughter.

9 And if he have no daughter, then ye fhall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

10 And if he have no brethren, then ye (hall give his inheritance unto his fathers brethren.

11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinfman that is next to him of his family, and he shall poffefs it: and it fhall be unto the children of Ifrael a ftatute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Mofes.

12 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Get thee up into this mount Aba rim, and fee the land which I have gi ven unto the children of Ifrael.

13 And when thou haft seen it, thou
