Job. Urthermore Elihu answered and faid, 2 Hear my words, O ye wife men, and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tafterh meat.

4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among our felves what is good. 5 For Job hath faid, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judg

ment.

6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without tranfgreffion. 7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up fcorning like water?

8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walkech with wicked men.

9 For he hath faid. It profiteth a man nothing, that he fhould delight himself with God..

To Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 For the work of a man fhall he render unto him, and caufe every man to find according to his ways.

12 Yea, furely God will not do wickedy, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

Gods juftice

23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter inte judgment with God.

24 He fhall break in pieces mighty men without number, and fet others in their ftead.

25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, fo that they are deftroyed.

26 He ftriketh them as wicked men in the open fight of others:

27 Because they turned back from him, and would not confider any of his ways.

28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

30 That the hypocrite reign not, left the people be infnared.

31 Surely it is meet to be faid unto God, I have born chaftifement, I will not offend any more.

32 That which I fee not, teach thou me; if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompence it, whether thou re13 Who hath given him a charge o-fufe, or whether thou choose, and not It ver the earth? or who hath difpofed therefore fpeak what thou knoweft. the whole world? 34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wife mah hearken unto m.

14 If he fet his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his fpirit and his breath;

15 All fefh fhall perish together, and man fhall turn again unto duft. 16 If now thou haft understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of words.

35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wif dom.

36 My defire is that Job may be tried unto the end, because of his answers for wicked men.

37 For he addeth rebellion unto his

multiplieth his words against God.

17 Shall even he that hareth right go-fin,he slappeth his hands amongst us,and vern? and wilt thou condemn him that is moft juft?

18 Isit fit to fay to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes. Te are ungodly? 19 How much lefs to him that accepteth not the perfons of princes, nor regard eth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work his hands.

20. In a moment half they die, and the

people fhall be troubled at midnight, and pafs away and the mighty fhall be taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he feeth all his goings. 22 There is no darkness nor fhadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may side themfelves.

Comparison is not to be made with God, because our good or evil cannot extend unto him. 9 Many cry in their af factions, but are not heard for want of faith.

Thinkelt thou this to be right,

that thou faidft, My righteoufaels is more than Gods?

3 For mou faidft, What advantage will it be unto thee, and, What profit fhall have if I be cleanfed from my fin?

God is just.

Chap. xxxvi.

Sin hinders Gods bleffings.

5 Look unto the heavens, and fee and and their tranfgreffions that they have behold the clouds which are high.r than exceeded. hou.

6 If thou finneft, what doft thou against him? or if thy tranfgreffions be multiplied, what doft thou unto him? 7 If thou be righteous, what giveft thou him? or what receivech he of chine hand?

8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as chou art, and thy righteoufnefs may profit the fon of man.

10 He openeth alfo their ear to difcipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

II If they obey and ferve him, they fhall fpend their days in profperity, and their years in pleasures.

12 But if they obey not, they fhall perish by the fword, and they fhall die without knowledge.

13 But the hypocrites in heart heap 9 By reafon of the multitude of op-up wrath: they cry not when he bindpreffions, they make the oppreffed to cry:eth them. they cry out by reafon of the arm of the mighty.

10 But none faith, Where is God my maker, who giveth fongs in the night

11 Who teacheth us more than the beafts of the earth, and maketh us wifer than the fowls of heaven.

12 There they cry, (but none giveth anfwer) because of the pride of evil men. 13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 Although thou fayft thou shalt not fee him, yet judgment is before him, therefore truft thou in him.

15 But now, because iris not fe, he hath vifited in his anger, yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain: he multiplieth words without knowledge.

CHAP. XXXVI. Elihu fheweth how God is just in his ways, 16 How Jobs fins hinder Gods bleffings. 24 Gods works are to be magnified.

E

Lihu alfo proceeded, and faid,
2 Suffer me a little, and I will
Thew thee, that I have yet to speak on
Gods behalf.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will afcribe righteousness to my

maker.

4 For truly, my words fhall not be falle: he that is perfe& in knowledge is with thee.

5 Behold, God is mighty, and defpifeth not any he is mighty in ftrength and wisdom.

6 He preferveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous but with kings are they on the throne, yea, he doth establifh them for ever, and they are exalted..

8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction :

9 Then he fheweth them their work,

14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their cars in oppreffion.

16 Even fo would he have removed thee out of the ftrait into a broad place, where there is no ftraitness, and that which fhould be fet on thy table, sould be full of fatnefs.

17 But thou haft fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and juftice take hold on thee.

18 Because there is wrath, beware left he take thee away with his ftroke: then a great ranfom cannot deliver thee.

19 Will he efteem thy riches? no not gold, nor all the forces of ftrength. 20 Defire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this haft thou chofen rather than affli&tion.

22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can fay, Thou haft wrought iniquity?

24 Remember that thou magnifie his work, which men behold.

25 Every man may fee it, man may behold ir afar off.

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be fearched out.

27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapor thereof:

28 Which the clouds do drop, and diftil upon man abundantly.

29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

30 Behold,he fpreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the fea. 31 For by them judgeth he the people. he giveth meat in abundance.

God to be feared for his works:

32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to fbine, by the cloud that comech betwixt.

33 The noise thereof fheweth concerning it, the cattle alfo concerning the vapor.

CHAP. XXXVII.

1 God is to be feared for his great works: 15 His wifdom is unfearchable in them. T this alfo my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place. 2 Hear attentively the noife of his voice, and the found that goeth out of

his mouth.

3 He dire&teth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

4 After it a voice roreth: he thundreth with the voice of his excellency, and he will not ftay them when his voice is heard.

5 God thundreth marvelloufly with his voice; great things doth he, which we cannot comprehend.

6 For he faith to the fnow, Be thou on the earth; likewife to the fmall rain, and to the great rain of his ftrength.

He fealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work. 8 Then the beafts go into dens, and remain in their places.

9 Out of the fouth cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

10 By the breath of God, froft is given: and the breadth of the waters is ftraitned.

11 Allo by watering be wearieth the thick cloud: he fcattereth his bright cloud.

12 And it is turned round about by his counfels that they may do whatfoever he commandeth them, upon the face of the world in the earth.

13 He caufeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy. 14 Hearken unto this, O Job: ftand ftill, and confider the wondrous works

of God.

15 Doft thou know when God difpofed them, and caufed the light of his cloud to fhine?

16 Doft thou know the ballancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

20 Shall it be told him that I fpeal if a man fpeak, furely he fhall be fr lowed up.

21 And now men fee not the brig light which is in the clouds: but wind paffeth and cleanfeth chem.

22 Fair weather cometh out of t north: with God is terrible majefty. 23 Touching the Almighty, we cann find him out: he is excellent in powe and in judgment, and in plenty of j ftice: he will not affli&t.

24 Men do therefore fear him : here' fpe&eth not any that are wise of heart. CHA F. XXXVIII.
