The Levites portion.

Numbers.

on, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither fhalt thou have any part among them: I am thy part, and thine inheritance among the children of Ifrael.

21 And behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Ifracl, for

an inheritance, for their fervice which they ferve, even the fervice of the tabernacle of the congregation.

22 Neither muft the children of If rael henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, left they bear fin, and die.

23 But the Levites fhall do the fervice of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fhall bear their iniquity: It hall be a ftature for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Ifrael they have no inheritance.

CHA P. XIX.
1 The water of feparation: 11 The use of
it for the purification of the unclean.
ANd the LORD fpake unto Mofes,

and unto Aaron, faying,

2 This is the ordinance of the law, which the LORD hath commanded, fay ing, Speak unto the children of Ifrael, that they bring thee a red heifer without fpot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke.

3 And ye shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one fhall flay her before his face.

4 And Eleazar the prieft fhall take of her blood with his finger, and fprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation feven times.

5 And one fhall burn the heifer in his fight; her skin, and her fiefh, and her blood, with her dung, fhall he burn.

24 But the tithes of the children of Ifrael, which they offer an heave-offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have faid unto them, Among the children of Ifrael they fhall have no inheritance. 25And the LORD spake unto Mofes,it Laying,

26 Thus fpeak unto the Levites, and fay unto them, When ye take of the children of Ifrael the tithes, which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye fhall offer up an heaveoffering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.

27 And this your heave-offering fhall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshing-floor, and as the fulness of the wine-prefs.

6 And the prieft fhall take cedarwood, and hyffop, and fearlet, and caft into the midft of the burning of the heifer.

7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he fhall bathe his flefh in water, and afterward he fhall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.

8 And he that burneth her, fhall wafn his clothes in water, and bathe his fleth in water, and shall be unclean until the even.

9 And a man that is clean fhall gather up the afhes of the heifer, and lay them 28 Thus you alfo fhall offer an heave-up without the camp in a clean place, offering unto the LORD, of all your tithes which ye receive of the children of Ifrael: and ye shall give thereof the LORDS heave-offering to Aaron the prieft.

29 Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave-offering of the LORD, of all the beft thereof, even the hallowed part thereof, out of it..

30 Therefore thou shalt fay unto them, When ye have heaved the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted unto the Levites,as the increase of the threshingfloor, & as the increase of the wine-prefs. 31 And ye fhall eat it in every place, ye and your houtholds: for it is your eward for your fervice, in the tabernacle of the congregation.

32 And ye fhall bear no fin, by reafon of it, when ye have heaved from it the best of it: neither fhall ye pollute

and it fhall be kept for the congregation of the children of Ifrael, for a water of feparation: it is a purification for fin.

10 And be that gathereth the afhes of the heifer, fhall wafh his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it fhall be unto the children of Ifrael, and unto the ftranger that fojournech among them, for a ftatute for ever.

He that toucheth the dead body of any man, fhall be unclean feven days.

12 He fhall purifie himself with it on the third day, and on the feventh day he fhall be clean: but if he purifie not himfelf the third day, then the feventh day he fhall not be clean.

13 Whofoever toucheth the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifieth nor himself, defileth the tabernacle of the LORD; and that foul fhall be cut off from Ifrael: because the water of sepa

ration was not fprinkled upon him, he fhall be unclean; his uncleannefs is yet upon him.

14 This is the law, when a man dieth in a tent; all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, fhall be unclean feven days.

15 And every open vessel which hath no covering bound upon it is unclean.

16 And whofoever toucheth one that is flain with a fword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, fhall be unclean seven days.

17 And for an unclean perfon they fhall take of the afhes of the burnt heiter of purification for fin, and running water fhall be put thereto in a veifel :

18 And a clean perfon fhall take hyffop, and dip it in the water, and fprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the veffels, and upon the perfons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one flain, or one dead, or a grave:

19 And the clean perfon fhall (prinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the feventh day: and on the feventh day he hall purific himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and fhall be clean at even.

20 But the man that fhall be unclean, and fhall not purifie himself, that foul fhall be cut off from among the congregation: because he hath defiled the fanGuary of the LORD, the water of feparation hath not been fprinkled upon him, he is unclean.

21 And it fhall be a perpetual ftatite unto them, that he that sprinklech the water of feparation, fhall wafh his clothes, and he that toucheth the water of feparation, shall be unclean until

even.

6 And the LORD fent fiery ferpents among the people; and they bit the people, and much people of Ifrael died.

7Therefore the people came to Mofes, and faid, We have finned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD that he take away the ferpents from us : and Mofes prayed for the people.

8 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Make thee a fiery ferpent, and fet it upon a pole and it fhall come to pals, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, fhall live.

9 And Mofes made a ferpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pafs, that if a ferpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the ferpent of brafs, he lived.

13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other fide of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coafts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

14 Wherefore it is faid in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red fea,and in the brooks of Arnon,

nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the law-giver, with their ftaves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:

19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:

20 And from Bamoth in the valley that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pifgah, which looketh toward Jelhimon.

21 And Ifrael fent meffengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, faying,

22 Let me pass through thy land; we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards, we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the kings high-way, until we be paft thy borders.

23 And Sihon would not fuffer Ifrael to pals through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out againft Ifracl into the wildernefs: and he came to Jahaz, and fought againft Ifrael.

24 And Ifrael fmote him with the edge of the fword, and poffeffed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was ftrong.

25 And Ifrael took all thefe cities: and Ifrael dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Hefhbon, and in all the villages thereof.

26 For Heflabon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.

27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs, fay, Come into Hefhbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared.

28 For there is a fire gone out of Hefhbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath confumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

29 Wo to thee, Moab; thou art undonc, O people of Chemofh: he hath given his fons that efcaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

30 We have shot at them; Hefhbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them wafte even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.

31 Thus Ifrael dwelt in the land of the Amorites..

32 And Mofes fent to fpy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.

33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan; and Og, the king of
