Chap. xxxv.

Fofiah keepeth the paffover. fourteenth day of the first month. 2 And he fet the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the fervice of the houfe of the LORD,

3 And faid unto the Levites that taught all Ifrael which were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the houfe which Solomon the fon of David king of Ifrael did build; it shall not be a burden upon your fhoulders: ferve now the LORD your God, and his people Ifrael, 4 And prepare your felves by the houfes of your fathers, after your courfes, according to the writing of David king of Ifrael, and according to the writing of Solomon his fon.

5 And ftand in the holy place according to the divifions of the families of the fathers of your brethren the people, and after the divifion of the families of the Levites.

6 So kill the paffover, and fan&tifie your felves, and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD, by the hand of Mofes.

17 And the children of Ifrael that were prefent, kept the raffover at that time, and the feaft of unleavened bread feven days.

And Jofiah gave to the people, of 18 And there was no paffover like to the flock, lambs and kids, all for the that kept in Ifrael, from the days of Sa paffover-offerings, for all that were pre-muel the prophet, neither did all the

8 And his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests and to the Levites: Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the houfe of God, gave unto the priefts for the paffover-offerings two thousand and fix hundred Small cattle, and three hundred oxen.

9 Conaniah alfo, and Shemaiah, and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hafhabiab, and Jehiel, and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for paffover-offerings, five thousand Small cattle, and five hundred oxen.

10 So the fervice was prepared, and the priests ftood in their place, and the Levites in their courfes, according to the kings commandment.

11 And they killed the paffover, and the priests Sprinkled the blood from their hands, and the Levites ftayed them.

12 And they removed the burnt-offerings, that they might give according to the divifions of the families of the people, to offer unto the LORD, as it is written in the book of Mofes: and fo did they with the oxen..

13 And they rofted the paffover with fire, according to the ordinance: but the other holy offerings fod they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and divi

19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jofiah, was this paffover kept.

21 But he fent ambaffadors to him, faying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not againft thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make hafte: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he deftroy thee not.

22 Nevertheless Jofiah would not turn his face from him, but difguifed himself that he might fight with him,and hearkned not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

23 And the archers fhot at king Jofiah; and the king faid to his fervants, Have me away, for I am fore wounded.

24 His fervants therefore took him out of that charior, and put him in the fecond chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerufalem, and he die and was buried in one of the fepulci

25 And Jeremiah lamented for Jofiah, and all the finging-men and the finging-women fpake of Jofiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Ifrael: and behold, they are written in the lamentations. 26 Now the reft of the acts of Jofiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD,

11 Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned eleven years in Jerufalem.

12 And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet, Speaking from the mouth of the LORD.

13 And he alfo rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him fwear by God: but he ftiffened his neck, and hardned his heart from turning unto the LORD God of Ifrael.

14 Moreover, all the chief of the priefts, and the people tranfgreffed very much, after all the abominations of the heathen, and polluted the houfe of the LORD which he had hallowed in

Nebuchadnezzar alfo carried of the veffels of the honfe of the LORD to Babylon, and put them in bis temple at Babylon.

8 Now the reft of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Ifrael and Judah and Jehoiachin his fon reigned in hi ftead.

10 And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar fent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly veflels of the houfe of the LORD, and made

19 And they burnt the houfe of God, and brake down the wall of Jerafalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and deftroyed all the goodly veffels thereof.

20 And them that had efcaped from the fword, carried he away to Pabylon: where they were fervants to him and his fons, until the reign of the kingdom of Perfia

21 To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah. until the land had enjoyed her fabbaths for as long as the lay defolate, fhe kept fabbath, to fulfil threefcore and ten years.

7 Alfo Cyrus the king brought forth the veffels of the houfe of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerufalem, and had put them in the houfe of his gods:

8 Even thofe did Cyrus king of Perfia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treafurer, and numbred them unto Shehbazzar the prince of Judah.

9 And this is the number of them:

captivity, of thofe which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerufale.n and Judah, every one unto his city';

64 The whole congregation together, was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

65 Befides their fervants and their Imaids, of whom there were feven thoufand three hundred thirty and feven: and there were among them two hundred finging-men and finging-women.

66 Their horfes were feven hundred thirty and fix: their mules two hundred forty and five:

67 Their camels four hundred thirty and five: their affes, fix thousand seven hundred and twenty.

68 And fome of the chief of the fathers when they came to the houfe of the LORD which is at Jerufalem, offered freely for the house of God to fet it up in his place:

69 They gave after their ability, unto the treasure of the work, threefcore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of filver, and one hundred priests garments.

70 So the priests and the Levites, and Some of the people and the fingers, and the porters and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Ifrael in their cities. CHAP. III.

come, and the children of Ifrael were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together, as one man, to Jerufalem.

2 Then ftood up Jefhua the fon of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the fon of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Ifrael, to offer burnt-offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Mofes the man of God.

3 And they fet the altar upon his bafes, (for fear was upon them, becaufe of the people of thofe countries) and they offered burnt-offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt-offerings morning and evening;

4 They kept alfo the feaft of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt-offerings by number, according to the cuftom, as the duty of every day required;

5 And afterward offered the continual burnt-offering, both of the new-moons,

6 From the first day of the feventh month began they to offer burnt-offerings unto the LORD: but the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.

7 They gave money alfo unto the ma fons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oyl, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the fea of Joppa: according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Perfa.

8 Now in the fecond year of their Coming unto the house of God at Jerufalem, in the fecond month, began Zerubbabel the fon of Shealtiel,and Jefhua the fon of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerufalem; and appoint ed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to fet forward the work of the houfe of the LORD.

9 Then ftood Jeshua, with his fons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his fons, the fons of Judah together to fet forward the workmen in the house of God: the fons of Henadad, with their fons and their brethren the Levites.

10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they fet the priests in their apparel with

11 And they fung together by course, in praifing and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever towards Ifrael. And all the people fhouted with a great fhout when they praised the LORD, becaufe the foundation of the houfe of the LORD was laid.

12 But many of the pricfts and Le vites, and chief of the fathers who were ancient men that had feen the firft houfe, when the foundation of this houfe was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice, and many fhouted aloud for joy:

13 So that the people could not difcern the noife of the thout of joy, from the noife of the weeping of the people: for the people fhouted with a loud fhout, and the noife was heard afar off,
