The Ifraelites go out of Egypt.

Chap xiv.

15 And it came to pafs when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD flew all the first born in the land of Egypt, both the firft-born of man, and the firft-born ofbeaft: therefore I facrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firftborn of my children I redeem.

16 And it fhall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by ftrength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.

17 And it came to pafs, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philiftines, although that was near: for God faid, Left peradventure the people repent when they fee war, and they return to Egypt.

18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Tea: and the children of Ifrael went up harneffed out of the land of Egypt.

19 And Mofes took the bones of Jofeph with him: for he had ftraitly fworn the children of Ifrael, faying, God will furely vifit you; and ye thall carry up my bones away hence with you.

20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wildernefs.

21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light: to go by day and night. 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

Pharaoh purfueth them.

Why have we done this, that we have let Ifrael go from ferving us?

6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him.

7 And he took fix hundred chofen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.

And the LORD hardned the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pur fued after the children of Ifrael: and the children of Ifrael went out with an high hand.

9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, (all the hortes and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horfemen, and his army) and overtook them encamping by the fea, befide Pi-hahiroth before Baal-zephon. 10

And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Ifrael lift up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them, and they were fore afraid: and the children of lirael cried out unto the LORD.

11 And they said unto Mofes, Becaufe there were no graves in Egypt, haft thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? Wherefore haft thou deal thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?

12 Is not this the word thatwe did rell thee in Egypt, faying, Let us alone, that we may ferve the Egyptians? for it had been better for us to ferve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness,

13 And Mofesfaid unto the people, Fear ye not, ftand ftill, and fee the falvation of the LORD, which he will thew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have feen to day, ye shall fee them again no more for ever.

14 The LORD hall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

the Egyptians and the camp of Ifrael, and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to thefe: fo that the one came not near the other all the night 21 And Mofes ftretched out his hand over the fea, and the LORD caufed the fea to go back by a strong caft-wind all that night, and made the fea dry-land, and the waters were divided.

22 And the children of Ifrael went into the midft of the fea upon the dry-ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

23 And the Egyptians purfued, and went in after them, to the midft of the fea, even all Pharaohs horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24 And it came to pafs, that in the morning-watch the LORD looked unto the hoft of the Egyptians, through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the hoft of the Egyptians,

25 And took off their chariot-wheels, that they drave them heavily: fo that the Egyptians faid, Let us flee from the face of Ifrael; for the LORD fighteth for them, against the Egyptians..

26 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch out thine hand over the fea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

27 And Mofes ftretched forth his hand over the fea, and the fea returned to his ftrength when the morning ap peared, and the Egyptians fled againft it and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the fea.

28 And the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the hoft of Pharaoh that came into the fea after them: there remained not fo much as one of them.

29 But the children of Ifrael walked upon dry-land in the midft of the fea: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

30 Thus the LORD faved Ifrael that day out of the hand of the Egyptians: and Ifrael faw the Egyptians dead upon the fea-fhore.

2 The LORD is my ftrength and fong, and he is become my falvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my fathers God, and I will exalt him.

3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

4 Pharaohs chariots and his hoft hath he caft into the fea: his chofen captains alfo are drowned in the Red fea. 5 The depths have covered them: they fank into the bottom as a stone.

6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dafhed in pieces the enemy. 7 And in the greatnefs of thine excellency thou haft overthrown them that rofe up against thee: thou fenteft forth thy wrath, which confumed them as ftub ble.

8 And with the blast of thy noftrils. the waters were gathered together: the floods ftood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the fea.

9 The enemy faid, I will pursue, I will overcake, I will divide the fpoil: my luft fhall be fatisfied upon them, I will draw my fword, my hand fhall deftroy them.

10 Thou didft blow with thy wind, the fea covered them: they fank as lead in the mighty waters.

11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, amongst the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12 Thou ftretchedft out thy right hand, the earth fwallowed them.

13 Thou in thy mercy haft led forth the people which thou haft redeemed! thou haft guided them in thy ftrength unto thy holy habitation.

14 The people fhall hear, and be afraid: forrow fhall take hold on the inhabitants of Paleftina.

15 Then the dukes of Edom fhall be amazed, the mighty men of Moab, trembling fhall take hold upon them: all the inhabitants of Canaan fhall melt away.

16 Fear and dread hall fall upon them, by the greatness of thine arm they fhall be as ftill as a fione: till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pals over, which show haft purchased. 17 Tho

19 For the horfe of Pharaoh went in with his chariots, and with his horsemen into the fea, and the LORD brought a gain the waters of the fea upon them: But the children of Ifrael went on dryland in the mids of the fea.

20 And Miriam the prophetefs, the fifter of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her, with timbrels, and with dances.

21 And Miriam anfwered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath be thrown into the fea.

22 So Mofes brought Ifrael from the Red fea, and they went out into the wildernefs of Shur: & they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water, 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 And the people murmured againft Mofes, faying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried unto the LORD, and the LORD fhewed him a tree, which when he had caft into the waters, the waters were made fweet: there he made for them a ftatute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And faid, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, & wilt do that which is right in his fight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his ftatutes; I will put none of thefe diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egypti ans: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threefcore and ten palm-trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Then faid the LORD unto Mofes, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people fhall go our, and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

5 And it fhall come to país, that on the fixth day, they fhall prepare that which they bring in; and it fhall be twice as much as they gather daily.

6 And Mofes and Aaron faid unto all the children of Ifrael, At even, then ye fhall know that the LORD hach brought you out from the land of Egypt.

7 And in the morning, then ye fhall fee the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: And what are we, that ye murmur against us?

8 And Mofes faid, This shall be when the LORD fhall give you in the evening fiefli to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: And what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but againft the LORD.

9And Mofes fpake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Ifrael, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.

10 And it came to pafs, as Aaron pake unto the whole congregation of the children of Ifrael, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

11 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,
