MAY 8-9.

Is. lii. 13.

Behold my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted, and extolled, and be very high.

MARK vii. 36-37.

And He charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it: and were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well : he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

ANON.

Now in a song of grateful praise,
To my dear Lord my voice I'll raise;
With all his saints I'll join to tell,
My Jesus hath done all things well.
All worlds his glorious power confess,
His wisdom all his works express;
But oh his love what tongue can tell?
My Jesus hath done all things well.
Ah! since my soul hath known his love,
What mercies has he made me prove!
Mercies which do all praise excel;
My Jesus hath done all things well.

MAY 10-11.

Ps. 1. 6.

And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge him

self.

MARK ix. 7.

And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, hear him.

BARTO N.

Give glory to the Son, who came,
Cloth'd in our fleshy, mortal frame ;
Who bore our sins, vouchsaf'd to give
Himself to die, that we might live;
Who-holy, harmless, undefiled,

Was patient-spurn'd; was dumb-re

viled;

Who, in the agonies of death,

Pour'd for his foes his parting breath;
Was perfect God and man in one:
Give glory to the Incarnate Son!

MAY 12-13.

MAL. iv. 5.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

MARK ix. 13.

But I say unto you, that Elias is indeed come.

H. FRY.

To day! To day!-the preacher cries,—
Let every heart attend;
From dull forgetfulness arise!

And make your God your Friend,

Let deeds, arrayed in hues of light,
Adorn the present hour;
Before the gathering shades of night
And cold oblivion's power,

On thee to-morrow ne'er may shine,-
Then let not vain delay,

Nor the unfruitful field be thine,

Thou creature of to-day.

MAY 14-15.

ISAIAH xl. 11.

He shall gather the lambs with his arms, and carry them in his bosom.

MARK X. 14-16.

Jesus said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God * * * * And He took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

ANON.

The voice of love, the voice of power,
Was heard in that delightful hour,
When Jesus in the temple press'd
Young children to his gracious breast,
And said, from fears to set them free,
Forbid them not to come to me."

That wondrous voice is heard no more,
It sounds on mortal ears to pour,
Yet all the good his word obey,
And follow where He led the way;
They in his stead the children take,
And bless them for their Master's sake.

MAY 16—17.

ISAIAH liii. 10.

When thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin; he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

MARK X. 45.

For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

[blocks in formation]

Yes! thou art worthy, dearest Lord
O'er every pulse of life to reign,
Yes! thou art worthy, dearest Lord,
Of all my love, for thou wast slain
To set a guilty spirit free

My Saviour bled and died for me!

O that this heart might ne'er forget,
The ardour of its present glow;
Nor cease to recollect the debt,

Which to his unbought love I owe.
Oh that my constant theme might be,
My gracious Saviour died for me.
