4. Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts ii. 38. But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor. vi. 11. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized and they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts ii. 41, 42. Ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. Rom. viii. 15, 16. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. i. 2. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. CLXIV. Naming and Baptizing the Infant.

And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. And N. I bap- his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall the name of be called John. And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. Luke i. 59 to 63. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. Luke ii. 21. CLXVI. Address to the people after the receiving of the Baptized into the Congregation.

1. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor. v. 17. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Gal. iii. 27. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible. 1 Pet. i. 23. I am the vine, ye are the branches. John xv. 5. Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. Well; because of unbelief they were broken off; and thou standest by faith. Be not high minded, but fear. Rom. xi. 19, 20. By one Spirit are we all baptized into one body. 1 Cor. xii. 13. The Church which is his [Christ's] body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Eph. i. 22, 23.

2. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing. Psal. cvii. 21, 22. What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? Psal. cxvi. 12. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psal. ciii. 2. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Psal. lxviii. 19.

him, that this righteous man availeth much. James v. 16. I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: and this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; being filled with the fruits of righteousness. Phil. i. 3. 6. 9, 10, 11. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord. Hosea vi. 3. Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Pet. iii. 18. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby, 1 Pet. ii. 2. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught. Col. ii. 6, 7. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end. Heb. iii. 14.

CLXVII. Concluding Thanksgiving and Prayer. 1. I thank my God always on your behalf, for of God which is given you by Jesus grace Christ. 1 Cor. i. 4. Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel; being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Phil. i. 4, 5, 6. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Col. i. 12. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. Psal. cxi. 1. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort. 2 Cor. i. 3.-See also, 1 Thess. v. 18. 1 Pet. ii. 5. Eph. v. 20. Psal. xxxv. 18.
