went down unto the sea, and entered into a ship,
and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And
it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that
blew. So when they had rowed about five and
twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking
on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and
they were afraid. But he saith unto them, It is
I; be not afraid. Then they willingly received him
into the ship; and immediately the ship was at
the land whither they went. John vi. 16 to 21.
They returned, confirming the souls of the disci-
ples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith,
and that we must through much tribulation enter
into the kingdom of God. Acts xiv. 21, 22. These
are they which came out of great tribulation, and
have washed their robes, and made them white in
the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before
the throne of God, and serve him day and night
in his temple; and he that sitteth on the throne
shall dwell among them. Rev. vii. 14, 15. They
shall reign for ever and ever. Rev. xxii. 5.

Hear the words of the Gospel, written by Saint Mark, in the tenth Chapter, at the thirteenth Verse.

They brought young children to Christ, that he should touch them; and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Mark x. 13 to 16.

CLVII. The Exhortation founded on the Gospel.

Beloved, ye hear in this Gospel the words of our Saviour Christ, that he commanded the children to be brought unto him; how he blamed those that would have kept them from him; how he exhorteth all men to follow their innocency. Ye perceive how by his outward gesture and deed he declared his good will toward them; for he embraced them in his arms, he laid his hands upon them, and blessed them. Doubt ye not therefore, but earnestly believe, that he will likewise favourably receive this present Infant; that he will embrace him in the arms of his mercy; that he will give unto him the blessing of eternal life and make him partaker of his everlasting kingdom. Wherefore we being thus persuaded of the good will of our heavenly Father towards this Infant, declared by his Son Jesus Christ; and nothing doubting but that he favourably alloweth this charitable work of ours in bringing this Infant to his holy Baptism; let us faithfully and devoutly give thanks unto him.

Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. James i. 6. I will that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 1 Tim. ii. 8. Jesus saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith

shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark xi. 22, 23, 24. Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig-tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer believing, ye shall receive. Matt. xxi. 21, 22. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones. It is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Matt. xviii. 10. 14.
