As by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Rom. v. 12.

Consider how many are the devices of Satan. Pray for grace to enable you to withstand them, &c.

JAN. 3. I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Gen. iii. 15.

She shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for He shall save his people from their sins. Matt. i. 21.

Meditate on God's wisdom and goodness in devising a method whereby man might escape everlasting death.

Pray that you may be delivered therefrom, through the merits of the Saviour, the promised seed, &c.

JAN. 4. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Gen. vi. 13.

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it

be also in the days of the Son of man. St. Luke xvii. 26.

Consider what wickedness has already done,

and what it will yet do.

Pray to be kept from it, &c.

JAN. 5. And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him. Gen. vii. 5. If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Meditate on the obedience of Noah, &c.
Pray for grace to follow his example, &c.

JAN. 6. In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen. xii. 3.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John iii. 8.

Contemplate the love of God to fallen man, Pray that Christ's kingdom may speedily be established over all the earth, &c.

JAN. 7. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. xv. 6.

Gen.

To him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Rom. iv. 5.

Reflect on Abraham's faith, &c.

Pray that your faith may be increased, &c.

JAN. 8. And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. Gen. xxxv. 12. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matt. v. 5.

Reflect on the bounty of God, &c.

Pray to be an everlasting partaker thereof, &c.

JAN. 9. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Gen. xxxix. 9.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matt. v. 8.

Consider how heinous sin is, in the sight of the Almighty, &c.

Pray for grace and assistance to enable you to shun it in time of temptation.

JAN. 10. And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? Gen. xlvii. 8.

For here we have no continuing city, but we seck one to come. Heb. xiii. 14.

Consider how fading and transitory are all things here below, &c.

Pray that you may improve your future time, &c.

JAN. 11. And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? Exod. xvi. 28.

If ye keep my commandments ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. John xv. 10.

Meditate on God's goodness and forbearance.
Pray for an obedient heart, &c.

JAN. 12. Remember the sabbath-day, to keep it holy. Exod. xx. 8.

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb. x. 25.

Consider who it was that gave this commandment, &c.

Pray that you may keep it, &c.

JAN. 13. And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in command-. ment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. Exod. xxxiv. 32.

The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John i. 17.

Reflect on the severity of God's law, &c. Pray that you may fulfil it by the help of your Saviour.

JAN. 14. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy for I am the Lord your God. Lev.

XX. 7.

This is the will of God, even your sanctification. 1 Thess. iv. 3.

Reflect what an holy being God is, and how hateful sin must be in his sight.

Pray for the sanctifying influences of the Holy Spirit, &c.

JAN. 15.

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole; and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. Numb. xxi. 9.

As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John iii. 14, 15.

Reflect on the remedies which have been provided by the Almighty in all ages, to deliver man from death, &c.

Pray for faith in the Saviour who suffered death upon the cross, to save man from everlasting death, &c.

JAN. 16. Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his. Numb. xxiii. 10.

I heard a voice from heaven
