MAY 1. Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord; which are departed from the shadow of the world, and have received glorious garments of the Lord. 2 Esdras ii. 38, 39.

These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the first-fruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile for they are without fault before the throne of God. Rev. xiv. 4, 5.

Meditate on the happiness of the saints of God. Pray for grace to follow their good example, so that at last you may be numbered with them in glory everlasting.

MAY 2. Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no God but

me for there is no Saviour beside me. Hosea xiii. 4.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts iv. 12.

Reflect on the Author and finisher of man's salvation.

Pray for faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone you can be saved.

MAY 3. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalm c. 4.

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, rejoice. Phil. iv. 4.

Meditate on the manner in which it behoves you to approach God's ordinances.

Pray with gratitude, &c.

MAY 4. O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Psalm xliii. 3.

When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me. John xv. 26.

Meditate on the agency of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for his assistance to guide you into all truth.

MAY 5. The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. Isaiah xi. 9.

They shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. Heb. viii. 11.

Meditate on that time when this glorious prophecy shall be fulfilled, &c.

Pray to God to hasten it, &c.

MAY 6. The Lord is good, a strong-hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. Nahum i. 7.

The Lord knoweth them that are his. 2 Tim ii. 19.

Reflect on the omniscience of the Almighty, &c. Pray that you may approve yourselves to his all-seeing eye.

MAY 7. Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. Jer. ii. 4.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for cor

rection, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Tim. iii. 16, 17.

Meditate on the advantages of having the Scriptures, &c.

Pray for grace to read and understand them.

MAY 8. What meanest thou, O sleeper? Jonah i. 6.

Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. Ephes. v. 14. Consider the awful situation of that person who is asleep, and even dead in trespasses and sins. Pray to Christ for light now, and everlasting

life after death.

MAY 9. God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. Nahum i. 2.

Those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. Luke xix. 27.

Meditate on the end of final impenitence.
Pray for peace with God.

MAY 10. Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord. Psalm cxxxiv. 2.

Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. Rev. xxii. 12.

Reflect on the equity of God's proceedings.

Pray in the sanctuary with guiltless hands and with a pure heart.

MAY 11. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die? Ezek. xviii. 31.

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John iii. 5.

Observe here, the necessity of regeneration, &c. Pray that you may become a new creature in Christ Jesus, &c.

MAY 12. Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me. Psalm lxxxvi. 6, 7.

Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John xiv. 13, 14.
