Contemplate the goodness and wisdom of God in redemption.

Pray for faith in the Saviour who purchased redemption for you with his most precious blood.

FEB. 9. Stand in awe, and sin not. Ps. iv. 4. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin. 1 John iii. 9.

Meditate on the charge here given, &c.

Pray that your nature may be changed, so as to cause you to abhor sin, and shun it for the time to

come.

FEB. 10. How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. 1 Kings xviii. 21.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matt. vi. 24.

Reflect on the danger of a divided mind, &c. Pray that you may be enabled to give God your heart without any reserve, &c.

FEB. 11. My son, if sinners entice thee, conProv. i. 10.

sent thou not.

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt 1 Cor. xv. 33.

good manners.

Consider the danger of bad company, &c.
Pray to be kept from it, &c.

FEB. 12. Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Is. i. 17.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James i. 27.

Observe here an epitome of religion.

Pray for grace to practise what is here enjoined.

FEB. 13. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. Ps. vii. 12.

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it and if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. Luke xiii. 8, 9.

Reflect on God's forbearance and long-suffering, Pray to God for grace without delay, to amend your life, lest he cut you off in the midst of your sins, &c.

FEB. 14. The righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright. Ps. xi. 7.

The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. 1 Pet. iii. 12.

Contemplate God's love for the righteous.

Pray in faith to him, whose ears are ever open unto your prayers.

FEB. 15. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Ps. ix. 17.

Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke xiii. 5.

&c.

Meditate on the awfulness of this declaration,

Pray for true repentance, &c.

FEB. 16. How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? Job xxv.

Christ hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God. 1 Pet. iii. 18.

Reflect on the method by which man is justified in the sight of God, &c.

Pray that you may be made just in God's sight, through the sufferings of Christ, &c.

FEB. 17. God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Eccles. xii. 14.

For we must all appear before the judgementseat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor. v. 10. Meditate on the certainty of a judgment to come, &c.

Pray that you may receive the approbation of the Judge in that most awful day, &c.

FEB. 18. O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee. Ps. xxv. 20.

Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. Mark viii. 38.

Consider the guilt and danger of being ashamed of Christ.

Pray that you may surmount all difficulties, and finally conquer (through the merits of your Saviour) all your spiritual enemies.

FEB. 19. Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings. Jer. xxv. 5.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent. Rev. ii. 5.

Meditate on the danger of apostasy, &c.
Pray for repentance unto life, &c.

FEB. 20. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Ps. xxvii. 1.

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Rom. viii. 33. Mark the safety of God's elect followers, &c. Pray to him to protect you from all dangers, &c.

FEB. 21. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Prov. iv. 26.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Pet. v. 8.

Meditate on the benefits arising from circumspection, &c.

Pray for soberness, vigilance, and a circumspect walk.
