ON THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD.

[ORIGINAL.]

GREAT, eternal, sovereign King!
Let us thy praise for ever sing;
Let us thy majesty proclaim,
And ever glorify thy name!
Invisible to mortal sight,

In robes of pure celestial light,
Thou reignedst in thy native clime,
With all thy attributes sublime;
Before earth was, or time began---
Or angels were or issued man-
Ere nothing at thy great command,
Brought forth the sky-the seas-the land!
O King of kings! O Lord of lords!
What is it that thy might records?
Is it the heavens ?-with the earth
Which from thy word receiv'd their birth?
These are as nought before thy face,
With all the sons of Adam's race.
Before thee all the angels quake,
And at thy beck the heaven's shake;
E'en the archangels are in dread,
Whilst thy pure brillian light is shed.
Thy power exceeds all human thought,
Thy will all that was ever sought ;
Thy majesty no man can tell;
Thy judgments are inscrutable;
No power thy justice can command;
Thy truth is seen in every land;
Thy sanctity all worlds proclaim; .
Thy mercy o'er thy works doth reign;
Thy wisdom's seen in all designs;
Thy goodness in full glory shines;
Thy beauty, no less than thy might,
Is full of joy, of peace, and light;
Thy knowledge hath no bounds nor end;
Thy greatness none can comprehend;
Thy love no heart can fully feel;
Thy glory none can e'er reveal;

Thy height, thy depth, thy breadth, thy length,
No man can fathom, nor thy strength.
Thou liv'st, within, without, around-
Above, on earth, and under ground.
Thy name is fear'd in heav'n-in hell-
Where saints adore, or devils dwell.
O God! thou'rt prais'd in golden lyres,
By spirits bright-in heav'nly choirs,
Midst cherubs' songs, and seraphs' fires,
Whilst thrones and dominations sing,-
Holy Holy! Sovereign King!

CAPTAIN ROCK IN ROME.-Andrews, London, 2 vols. 12:no. To those who have not visited the Christian capital, this is an interesting work; some of the sketches, however, are not quite correct, and the style in some parts is faulty.

FALSE WEIGHTS AND MEASURES;

In reply to the Protestant Curate of Cavan, by Rev. T. Maguire.--R. Coyne, Dublin.

This tract contains much of the arguments and powers of the celebrated disputant. The style, in some passages, is rather low, but the reasoning is solid. From personal experience, we know no man can do more justice to controversy than Mr. Maguire, if he duly study, and pay particular attention to it.
