182. The Female Pilgrim.

1 WHITHER goest thou, pilgrim, stranger,
Wandering through this gloomy vale ?
Know'st thou not 'tis full of danger,
And will not thy courage fail?

No! I'm bound for the kingdom;
Will you go to glory with me?
Hallelujah! Praise ye the Lord.

Pilgrim thou dost justly call me,
Travelling through this lonely void;
But no ill shall e'er befall me,
While I'm blest with such a GUIDE.

Oh, I'm bound for the kingdom, &c.

Such a Guide! no guide attends thee,
Hence for thee my fears arise;
If some guardian power defend thee,
'Tis unseen by mortal eyes:

Oh, I'm bound for the kingdom, &c.

4 Yes, unseen; but still believe me,
Such a guide my steps attend;
He'll in every strait relieve me,
He will guide me to the end:

For I am bound for the kingdom, &c.

5 Pilgrim, see that stream before thee,
Darkly rolling through the vale;
Should its boisterous waves roll o'er thee,
Would not then thy courage fail?

No! I'm bound for the kingdom, &

6 No that stream has nothing frightful,
To its brink my steps I'll bend;
Thence to plunge 'twill be delightful;
There my pilgrimage will end.

For I'm bound for the kingdom, &c.

7 While I gazed, with speed surprising,
Down the vale she plunged from sight
Gazing still, I saw her rising,
Like an angel clothed in light!

Oh, she's gone to the kingdom,—
Will you follow her to glory?
Hallelujah! Praise ye the Lord.

Absent from flesh! O blissful
A charge to keep I have
A debtor to mercy alone
Ah! lovely appearance of
Ah! whither should I go
Alas, alas, how blind I've
All glory and praise
All hail the power of Jesus'
All ye that pass by
Almighty Maker of my frame
Although the vine its fruit
And am I only born to die
And can it be that I should
And will the Lord thus
And wilt thou yet be found
Appointed by thee, we meet
Arise, my soul, arise
Arise, my soul, with rapture
Ascend thy throne, Almighty
Awake, my soul, and with
Away with our fears
Begin, my soul, the exalted lay
Blest are the sons of peace
Blest Comforter divine
Broad is the road that leads
Come away to the skies
Come, every pious heart
Come, let us anew
Come, let us anew
Come, let us arise
Come, let us ascend
Come, sinners, attend
Come, thou fount of every
Come, thou long expected
Come, ye disconsolate
Come, ye sinners, poor and
Come, ye weary sinners, come
Commit thou all thy griefs
Destruction's dangerous road
Down to the tomb our brother
Draw nigh to us, Jehovah
Encompass'd with clouds
Earth, with her ten thousand
Ere I sleep, for every favor
Father of eternal grace
Father of our dying Lord
Father of mercies, when
Fear ye, beneath the torturing
Few are our days, those few
Firm was my health, my day
From every stormy wind

INDEX TO THE HYMNS IN VOLUME II.

O for a glance of heavenly day
O give me, Lord, my sins
O glorious hope of perfect love
O God of salvation, in mercy
O let me see thy light
One there is above all others
On Thibet's snow-capt
O thou from whom all
Our Captain leads us on
Our souls by love together
O what amazing words
O what shall I do

O Zion, afflicted with wave
Praise to God, the great
Prepare a thankful song
Prisoners of hope, lift up
Quiet, Lord, my froward
Safely through another week
Savior, canst thou love
Savior, Prince of Israel's race
Savior, richest source
See, how many lately bowing
See the eternal Judge
See the Lord of glory dying
See what a living stone
Shine, mighty God, on Zion
Show pity, Lord, O Lord
Since I've known a Savior's
Sing, sing his lofty praise
Sinner, O why so thoughtless
Sinners, behold that downward
Soft be the gently breathing
Sovereign of worlds above
Stretch d on the cross,
Sweet as the shepherd's
Sweet peace of conscience
Sweet sabbath of the year
Sweet the moments, rich
Sweet to rejoice in lively hope
Tempted, tossed, troubled
That we may walk with God
