THE WORLD'S WOrkers. = Charles Dickens. BY HIS ELDEST DAUGHTER. Mary Dickens. C CASSELL & COMPANY, LIMITED: LONDON, PARIS, NEW YORK & MELBOURNE. [ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.] PREFACE. I HAVE written this short biography of my father at the request of Messrs. Cassell and Company, expressly for the young. I have little that is new to tell, the subject having already been exhaustively treated in Mr. Forster's "Life," and in our own published "Letters." I have tried to collect every incident which will be most likely to interest and to appeal to young people; and whenever I have been able to use my father's own words, I have done so. If the reading of this little book be the means of making any boys and girls love and venerate the Man-before they can know and love and venerate the Author and the Genius-I shall have accom plished my task with a thankful and a grateful heart.
