ON THE FOUR GOSPELS AND By THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES Frederic Martin πρέπον οὖν ἐστιν μὴ μόνον καλεῖσθαι Χριστιανούς, μακάριον ποιεῖ.] IGNAT. AD MAGN. LONDON WILLIAM PICKERING 1838 Dissertations) every thing that is most essential, will be seen at pages 619-624. While the entire English text is withheld, the method pursued in revising the Translation may not be exactly judged from the data in the preface and in appendix G. This is a matter of the slightest possible importance. Few reasons can be more futile, and even ignorant, than those usually advanced for public alteration of the Authorised Version. Nor are such vapid reasons to be found solely among those who pride themselves upon refusing to belong to the Establishment: that unhappily on this, as upon some other points, muros intra peccatur et extra, is manifested by the letters of "an Essex Rector," printed in XIII. of the Pamphleteer. Very much remains to be accomplished by individual enterprise, and even then (let this be ever so successful) many years must have elapsed to give time for searching and dispassionate consideration, before public alteration can be rendered at all justifiable. Before perusal, attention is requested to the corrigenda at the end. That the volume is not more disfigured by errors of the press, is due to the kindness of the friend whose name adorns it. All other imperfections are my own. f F. M. 30th March, 1838. + J. Martin. Lewin's See Like and Epistis of St. Paul, 2d ed. Vol. I. p. 410; note £32. B. Jewish Sects, and The Early Heresies.... C.
