A BRIEF OUTLINE OF ETYMOLOGY, SYNTAX, AND ANALYSIS,
WILLIAM DAVIS, B.A.
Author of 'The Complete Book of Arithmetical Examples,
LONGMANS, GREEN, AND CO.
This Work is not intended for mere beginners, but for those who have made some progress in at least the Rudiments of English Grammar and Parsing. Brief outlines are given of one branch of Etymology, also of Syntax and Analysis; but these outlines will be found to contain little more than is sufficient to refresh the memory of the pupil, and, of course, are not intended to supersede the study of fuller and more complete works on the subjects. The features which, in the opinion of the compiler, give a value to the book, are the number and variety of the Exercises. Every Exercise in Parsing and Analysis has been taken from the work of a standard author, and will, it is believed, call into activity the thought of the pupil, and afford considerable scope for explanation from the teacher.
