had a few severe conflicts with the enemy of souls, whose darts were aimed with peculiar malignity against one with whom he knew his time was to be short; but she triumphed over them all, and was made "more than conqueror through him that loved her." Her deathbed was glorious, not a doubt or a fear seemed to intrude upon the perfect peace she was given to experience. Come, Lord Jesus,' she said, 'I see the light of thy glory shining around me. Though I am such a wicked sinner, God has promised I shall go to heaven, for our blessed Saviour died and suffered for me-for

The beloved sister in whose arms she reclined, says she felt as though the Saviour came down himself and removed her hence in his own everlasting arms ; her spirit fled without even a sigh to mark the moment of its flight.

Often did the departed one express the conviction that her death should be life to some soul. Many were around her when she so sweetly fell asleep in Jesus-among them a Roman Catholic. Who can tell but her conviction may be realized? Will not my readers pray that it may y?

THE JEWS.

"Ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence, and give him no rest till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth." -Isa. lxii. 67.

YE followers of the Lamb, ye remembrancers of the Lord, this appeal is made unto you. Ye that have found that the Lord is precious, ye that are cleansed in that fountain open for sin and uncleanness; ye that are clothed in the robe of Christ's justifying righteousness, and that stand complete only in Him,-ye, being true followers of the Lord, are called upon to "keep not silence," be up and stirring, and do that which your Lord commands ("keep not silence") for these mistaken people; ever remembering it was through their fall that salvation is come to the Gentiles. Be zealous while ye have opportunity; let these fellow-sinners be continually before your eyes, both at home and abroad. Spread their case before your reconciled God, plead heartily to the Lord Jesus that he make intercession for these peculiar people, that they may be washed in that "blood which cleanseth from all sin," that they may be sanctified by that Spirit which will enable them to cleave to their once persecuted Lord. When a sinner is brought by the Spirit to know the Lord, how is he filled with grief that he neglected that Saviour so long: none can sympathize with him until brought to view eternal things in the same light; none indeed can un

derstand his feelings unless he be partaker of them also.

Jesus, when he beheld the city, shed holy tears at the remembrance of their future punishment. How often did he try to win their souls to him, but they turned their faces from him, as though they needed nothing. Here is depicted also our own state: how often has the blessed Jesus spiritually striven to gain an entrance into our hearts, but we heeded him not; we passed him by : these thoughts often fill the Christians' eyes with tears at the remembrance of their ingratitude to Him who now fills them with his love.

'Give him no rest;' now you know what true happiness consists in; stand not still-be not weary-go on while ye dwell in the land. They shall prosper that love her." Never let your prayers be ended without an appeal made for this fallen nation. "Give him no rest," think of those words, how much they express, how loudly they speak to the heart of a true child of God. If we leave it undone, we neglect the command of our Lord. "If ye love me, keep my commandments"-are the words which dropt from the lips of Jesus-the blessed Jesus. Let this stir up your hearts continually, till God establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth. You may never be spared to witness this, but still persevere in prayer for them, while you remain on the earth. And why? because it is your Lord's command, "Ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not silence," for the time shall come when they shall be a praise in the earth; this peculiar people shall be restored, and shall acknowledge Jesus to be their God and king. O that glorious time shall come, for "God's words are settled in heaven," and Jesus has said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away,

but my words shall not pass away." All that the Lord hath spoken shall be performed, for he is a God of truth.

Jesus wept, prayed, and grieved for these his chosen race. Sleep not, then, ye that are the Lord's, seeing ye have been in the same condemnation. "Ye were once far from God, but now are brought nigh to Jesus, being justified by faith in his blood, having made peace with your once offended God; forget not this," Ye were once afar off." May the Spirit kindle a flame in your bosoms, that you may love these people, and be led to be zealous towards them. That ye may approach God often through his beloved Son, that he may smile again on these people also whom Jesus died to save.

THE BOKARA VICTIMS. By John Grover, Captain unattached.

OUR national sin, multiform and multiplied as it is, assuredly is about to find us out. Turn where we will, in every class, from the highest to the lowest, iniquity in some shape will be seen abounding; and, traced to its origin, every offence will be found rooted in a breach of the divine law, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart . . .. and thy neighbour as thyself." This is the grand PRINCIPLE of action, professedly recognized by all who believe the Bible to be true; practically carried out, alas! by a scattered few, here and there, who by continual seeking at the footstool of divine grace, obtain help so to do; and by the great bulk of the nominally Christian world cast behind their backs, or trodden underfoot in the struggle for worldly advantages, or openly laughed to scorn in the persons of those who faithfully adhere to it.
