RULE 11. p. 151.

Man has three great and valuable friends, whose combined influence secures his happiness. Religion elevates him; hope cheers him; virtue ennobles him. We love you dearly, when you behave with propriety.

We charge them not to break the laws.

We beseech thee to regard thy own happiness, and entreat thee not to sacrifice, &c.

Thou art the true friend whom I esteem, whom I revere, whom I sincerely wish to serve.

The God whom I serve (said Daniel) is able to pre

serve me from the lion's mouth, and he will deliver me, O king!

Take special care whom thou admittest into thy friendship, and whom thou takest into thy family. Them he defeated, though they were superior in

number.

With whom art thou angry? Whom dost thou upbraid so sharply? Whom dost thou provoke by calumny and insult?

2. Him whom you accuse in such violent terms, I declare and maintain to be innocent.

Them, who are amiable and good, all who know must esteem and love.

4. Reflection has convinced him of his error, and he begins to repent of his absurd conduct.

5. Alas, for them! They have shamefully swerved from the path of virtue.

I am he whom, in adversity, you despised, but whom, being now in prosperity, you court.

Ye are they who killed the prophets, and stoned those who were sent unto you.

It is they who set the city on fire; it is they who slew the inhabitants with the edge of the sword..

If I were he, I would be more cautious and consider before I took so, &c.

I always supposed it to be he who wrote that book.

I thought it had been she who composed that piece of music, but I was mistaken, for upon farther enquiry, I found it to have been he himself.

Can you believe that it was she who made so great a noise in the town?

Could you have imagined it to have been he who committed, &c.

Certainly it may have been he who committed the theft; but there is no positive proof that it actually was he.

They are those you meant to point, &c.

RULE 13. p. 154.

Let me go into the country and enjoy the pure air, and I shall recover my strength.

Let them return to the place whence they came, and let them carry their property with them.

Let her return to her affectionate friends, to her parents, &c
