6 and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and 'an' holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak 7 unto the children of Israel. it came to pass on the third day, 'when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of la trumpet exceeding loud; 'and' all the people that were in the camp trem(17 bled. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of (18 the mount. If thou buy lan' Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve and in the seventh he shall go out free for noth3 ing. If he come in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he bel married, then his wife shall go out 4 with him. If his master give him a wife, and she 'bear him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go 5 out by himself. But if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not 6 go out free: then his master shall bring him unto God, and shall bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

7 And if a man sell his daughter to be a "maidservant, she shall not go 8 out as the menservants do. If she please not her master, who hath lespoused her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange people he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceit9 fully with her. "And if he espousel her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. 10 °If he take him another wife; her 'food, her raiment, and her duty of 11 marriage, shall he not diminish. And

if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out 'for nothing', without money.

12) He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall surely be put to death. 13 °And if a man lie not in wait, but God

deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall 14 flee. And if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die. 15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly

healed.

20) And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall surely be punished. 21 °Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

And if men strive together', and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely 'fined', according as the woman's husband 'shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the 23 judges determine. °1But if any mis

chief follow, then thou shalt give life 24 for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, 25 hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, 'and destroy it; he shall let him go free 27 for his eye's sake. And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

And if an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die, the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the 29 ox shall be quit. But if the ox were wont to 'gore in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be 30 put to death. If there be laid on him a ransom', then he shall give for the redemption' of his life whatsoever is 31 laid upon him. Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgement shall it 32 be done unto him. If the ox gorel a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

And if one man's ox hurt another's, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the price of it; and the dead also they shall divide. 36 °Or if it be known that the ox was wont to gorel in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox, and the dead beast shall be his own.

7 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, he shall pay 8 double. If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it: (11) the oath of the LORD shall be between them both, whether he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's

the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be lan' hired thing, it came for its hire.

And if a man entice a 'virgin' that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to 17 be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he 7 sprinkled on the altar. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath 'spoken 8 will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all 9 these words.
