the LORD our God. This is an or5 dinance for ever to Israel. And the

house which I build is• great: for 6 great is our God above all gods. But

a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave all manner of gravings, to bel with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in

Jerusalem, whom David my father *8 did provide. Send me also cedar

trees, 2fir trees, and Salgum trees, out of Lebanon : for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon;

and, behold, my servants shall be with * I thy servants, oeven to prepare me

timber in abundance: for the house

which I am about to build shall be 10 wonderful great. °And, behold, I will

give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty

thousand baths of wine, and twenty 11 thousand baths of oil. "Then Huram

the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because

the Lord 'lovethi his people, he hath 12 made thee king over them. Huram

said moreover, Blessed be the LORD, Ithel God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with Idiscretion' and understanding, that

the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron,

in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to grave any manner of graving, and to devise any device : Ithat there may be a place appointed unto him with thy cunning, men, and

with the cunning men of my lord 15 David thy father. Now therefore

the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord hath spoken

of, let him send unto his servants : 16 'and we will cut wood out of Lebanon,

as much as thou shalt need : and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea

to "Joppa : and thou shalt carry it up 17 to Jerusalem. And Solomon num

bered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and

three thousand and six hundred. 18 °8 And he set threescore and ten thou

sand of them to ibeari burdens, and fourscore thousand that werel hewers in the mountains!, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the

people awork. 31 'Then Solomon began to build the

house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, 10 which he made ready' ilin the place that

David had 'appointed', in the thresh2 ing-floor of 12Ornan the Jebusite. °And

he began to build in the second day

of the second month, in the fourth 3 year of his reign. Now 18these are

the 'foundations whichSolomon 'laid! for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first

measure was threescore cubits, and (1) the breadth twenty cubits. And the

porch that was before the house, the length of it, according to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure 5 gold. And the greater house he

cieled with fir tree, which he over

laid with fine gold, and wrought! 6 thereon palm trees and chains. And

he garnished the house with precious

stones for beauty: and the gold was 7 gold of Parvaim. °He overlaid also

the house, the beams, the 'thresholds!, and the walls thereof, and the doors 'It stood upon

thereof, with gold; and graved Icheru8) bimi on the walls. And he made

the most holy house; the length Ithereofl, according to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits : and

he overlaid it with fine gold, amount9 ing to six hundred talents. °And the

weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold.

And he overlaid the upper 10 chambers with gold. °And in the

most holy house he made two Icheru

bimi of image work; and they' over11 laid them with gold. °And the wings

of the cherubimi were twenty cubits long : "thel wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was

likewise five cubits, reaching to the 12 wing of the other cherub. "And 'thel

wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house : and the other wing was five

cubits also, joining to the wing of the 13 other cherub. "The wings of these

Icherubim. spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on

their feet, and their faces were 191to14 ward the housel. And he made the

veil of blue, and purple, and crimson,

and fine linen, and wrought icheru15 bim thereon. 02 Also he made before

the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that

was on the top of each of them was (16 five cubits. "And he made chains in

the oracle, and put them on the 'tops! of the pillars; and 'hel made an hun

dred pomegranates, and put them on * 17 the chains. 3 And he iseti up the

pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the

right hand “Jachin, and the name of 41 that on the left 5Boaz. Moreover he

made an altar of brass, twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the 2) height thereof. Also he made ithel

molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and the height thereof 'was five cubits; and

a line of thirty cubits 'compassed it 3) round about. And under it was the

similitude of 7oxen, which did compass it round about, 8lforl ten İcubits!,

compassing the sea round about.

twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and

three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set upon

them above, and all their hinder parts 5 were inward. And it was lan' hand

breadth thick!; and the brim 'thereof was wrought' like the brim of a cup,

like the flower of la lily': it received 6 and held three thousand baths. He

made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them ; such things as Ibelonged to the burnt offering they

washed in them : but the sea was for 7 the priests to wash in. And he made

Ithel ten candlesticks of gold according to the ordinance concerning them'; and 'hel set them in the

temple, five on the right hand, and 8 five on the left. He made also ten

tables, and placed them in the temple, five on the right side, and five on the

left. And he made an hundred basons 9 of gold.

°Furthermore he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and

overlaid the doors of them with brass. 10 °And he set the sea on the right side

of the house eastward, toward the 11 south. 'And Huram made the pots,

and the shovels, and the basons. Sol Huram 'made an end of doing the

work that he "wrought for king Solo(12) mon lin' the house of God: "the two

pillars, and the "bowlsl, and the two chapiters which were on the top of the pillars ; and the two 'networks' to cover the two "bowls' of the chapiters

Ithat were on the top of the pillars ; 13 °and 'the four hundred pomegranates

for the two inet works! ; two rows of pomegranates 'fori each inetwork', to

cover the two 'bowls' of the chapiters 14 Ithat! were Supon the pillars. He

made also the bases, and 'the' lavers 15 made he upon the bases; "one sea, 16 and 'thel twelve oxen under it. "The

pots also, and the shovels, and the fleshhooks, and all the vessels thereof, did 10 Huram his father make (fori king Solomon for the house of the

17 LORD of bright brass. 'In the plain

of Jordan did the king cast them, in

the clay ground between Succoth and 18 'Zeredahl. 01 Thus Solomon made

all these vessels in great abundance:

for the weight of the brass ?could not (19) be found out. "And Solomon made

all the vessels that were lin' the house of God, the golden altar also, and the

tables whereon was the shewbread; 20 land the candlesticks with their

lamps, that they should burn 'accord

ing to the ordinancel before the *(21 oracle, of pure gold; "and the flowers,

and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold, 22 and that perfect gold; "and the snuff

ers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the firepans', of pure gold : and las for the entry of the house, the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house, 'to

wit', of the temple, were of gold. 5 (1 "Thus all the work that Solomon

ers of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the 'princes' of the fathers' housest of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the

covenant of the Lord out of the city 3 of David, which is Zion. Andi all

the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king 'at' the feast,

which was in the seventh month. 4. 'And all the elders of Israel came,

the Levites took up the ark. (5 °And they brought up the ark, and

the 'tentof 'meeting', and all the holy vessels that were in the 'Tent!; these

did the priests the Levites bring up. * 6 'Andi king Solomon and all the con

gregation of Israel, that were assemüled unto him, 'werel before the ark, Isacrificing! sheep and oxen, thati

could not be told nor numbered for 7) multitude. 'And the priests brought

in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto lits' place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place,

even under the wings of the Icheru8 bim. °For the Icherubim! spread

forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubimi covered the

ark and the staves thereof above. (9 °And the staves Iwere so long! that

the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle ; but they

were not seen without : and there it 10 is, unto this day. "There was nothing

in the ark save the two tables which Moses put 'therel at Horeb, ówhen the Lord made a covenant with the chil

dren of Israel, when they came out of 11 Egypt. "And it came to pass, when

the priests were come out of the holy place, (for all the priests that were present 'hadi sanctified 'themselves!,

and did not keep their courses! ; (12 also the Levites which were the

singers, all of them, leven! Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, land their sons and their brethren, arrayed in 'fine! linen, 'with' cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred

and twenty priests sounding with 13 trumpets :) ''it came even

to pass, Iwhen the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising, and thanking the LORD; and when they 'lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that

then the house was filled with a cloud, (14 even the house of the LORD, oso that

the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud : for the glory

of the LORD filled the house of God. 61 ?Then Ispakel Solomon, The LORD

hath said that he would dwell in the (2) thick

arkness. °But I have built thee lan! house of habitation, and a place for thee to dwell in' for ever. 3 °And the king turned his face, and

blessed 'alli the congregation of Is

rael: and all the congregation of (1) Israel stood. And he said, Blessed

be the LORD, 'thel God of Israel, which spake with his mouth 'untol

David my father, landi hath with his 5 hands fulfilled lit', saying, °Since the

day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city lout of all the tribes of Israel to build lan! house in, that my name might be there ; neither chose I any

man to be 'princel over my people 6 Israel: obut I have chosen Jerusalem,

that my name might be there; and

have chosen David to be over my 7 people Israel. Now it was in the

heart of David my father to build 'an!

house for the name of the Lord, 'thel (8 God of Israel. 'But the LORD said

iunto! David my father, 'Whereasi it was in thine heart to build lan' house

for my name, thou didst well that it 9 was in thine heart: ineverthelessi

thou shalt not build the house ; but thy son 'thati shall come forth out of

thy loins, he shall build the house for 10 my name. And the Lord hath per

formed his word that he ispakel; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and isiti on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and

have built the house for the name of 11 the LORD, 'the God of Israel. And

Ithere have I 'seti the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, 'which he

made with the children of Israel. 12 And he stood before the altar of the

Lord in the presence of all the con

gregation of Israel, and spread forth 13 his hands : °(for Solomon had made

a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread

forth his hands towardi heaven :) (14 °and 'hel said, O Lord, 'thel God of

Israel, there is no God like thee, in the heaven, forl in the earth; "whol keepest covenant and mercy 2 with!

thy servants, that walk before thee 15) with all their hearts: whol hast

kept with thy servant David my father that which thou 'didst promise him : 'year, thou spakest with thy

mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine 16 hand, as it is this day. Now there

fore, O Lord, 'thel 'God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, "There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit lon' the throne of Israel ; 'if onlyi thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my

law as thou hast walked before me. 17 °Now 'thereforel, O LORD, 'thel God

of Israel, let thy word be verified,

which thou 'spakesti unto thy servant 18 David. °But will God in very deed

dwell with men on the earth ? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less

this house which I have builded!! 19 °Yeti have thou' respect lunto! the

prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken

unto the cry and 'to the prayer which 20 thy servant prayeth before thee : °that

thine eyes may be open toward! this house day and night, leven toward the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer

which thy servant 'shall pray toward! 21 this place. And hearken"ithou to!

the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, 'when they shall 'pray toward this place : 'yea', hear thou from thy dwelling place, even

from heaven ; and when thou hearest, 22 forgive. "If a man sin against his

neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to 'causei him "tol swear, and 'hel

come land swear before thine altar (23 in this house : othen hear thou from

heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, 'to bring! his way upon his own head; and jus

tifying the righteous, ito give him 24 according to his righteousness. And

if thy people Israel be sismitten' down! before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall turn again and confess thy name, and pray

and make supplication before thee in 25 this house ; othen hear thou from

"heaven!, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again

unto the land which thou gavest to (26 them and to their fathers. When the

heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and

from their sin, 5when thou 27 6dost afflict them: othen hear thou

lin! heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, 5when thou 'teachesti them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which

'plaguei and his own isorrowl, and

shall spread forth his hands sitoward! 30 this house: othen hear thou from

heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according itol all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only,

knowest the hearts of the children of 31 men ;) °that they may fear thee, to

walk in thy ways, so long as they live

in the land which thou gavest unto 32 our fathers.

°Moreover concerning the stranger, 'that is not of thy people Israel, 'when he shalll come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched

out arm; 'when they 'shalll come and 33 pray toward this house: °then hear

thou from 'heaven', even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they

may know that 2this house which ́I 34 have built is called by thy name. 'If

thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoeveri way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou

hast chosen, and the house which I 35 have built for thy name : "then hear

thou from heaven! their prayer and

their supplication, and maintain their 36 8cause. "If they sin against thee,

(for there is no man Ithatsinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that!

4they carry them away 'captivel unto 37 a land far off or near; °yet if they

shalli bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again', and 'make supplication! unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we

have done 'perverselyl, and have dealt (38 wickedly; oif they return 'untol thee

with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity,

whither they have carried them 'captive', and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and

toward the house which I have built 39 for thy name: othen hear thou from

Theaven', even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their 'cause ; and forgive

thy people which have sinned against 40 thee. Now, O! my God, let, I be

seech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the

prayer that is made in this place. 41 05 Now therefore arise, O LORD God,

into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation,

and let thy saints rejoice in goodness. * 42 °O LORD God, turn not away the face

of thine anointed : remember the ?mer

cies of David thy servant. 71 Now when Solomon had made an

end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the

glory of the LORD filled the house. (2 °And the priests could not enter into

the house of the LORD, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord's 3) house. 'And all the children of Israel

Hooked on', when the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD 'wasupon the house; and! they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and 'gave thanks unto the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever. og Then the king

and all the people offered 'sacrifice! 5 before the Lord. And king Solomon

offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king

and all the people dedicated the house 6 of God. "And the priests 'stood, ac

cording to their offices; the Levites also with instruments %of music of the LORD, which David the king had made to give thanks unto the LORD, 'fori his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry : and

the priests sounded trumpets before 7 them; and all Israel stood. 010 More

over Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered the
